"Oh, my hero," Jim says, mock swooning a bit before he follows the given instructions, trying not to titter at the fact that he might actually get some decent coffee out of this thing. He'd have never thought himself the guy to get excited over coffee but when you got used to something and it was ripped away, you missed it.

"Ambition," Jim says without turning around. "That's not to say I'm a coward because I'm not but there are things I'm going to do better than anyone else before me and that's fact."

There was no other option. He'd joined Starfleet to crush expectations and he was going to continue to do that until he retired.
