"Very patriotic," Jim says with a shake of his head. "That level of patriotism doesn't really exist much where I come from. There's just so many planets and so many species jockeying for position that you don't really have one superpower."

The Federation, he supposes, is the superpower now. There were people that wanted to ascend to power, take it over, destroy everything but they'd been beaten back each time and they'd continue to be subdued as long as Jim was in charge.

No telling how long that would be though especially not now. He's pretty sure he's being mourned right now. What's the rule for a former captain coming back from the dead? Could he take his position again?

"Guess even someone with the power of America behind him can't get off this station," Jim muses, shaking his head. "Not much of a comfort."
