He doesn't know anything about Mars other than there's some robot there taking photos and NASA's thinking of going. Or has attempted to go. Or something? Travel within Earth didn't really interest him, and any dreams he might have had of being an astronaut like every other kid died when he lost his sight along with just about every other dream he had. So he can barely fathom going that far where he doesn't think it's habitable.
It honestly doesn't sound that appealing, living in domes or underground and not being able to go out without getting suited up. But that's not really all that different from New York, is it? He might live above ground but he's still in his little bubble, suiting up before he heads out for work, going through the same daily routines. It'd be all red anyway, just. Everyone else sees the red on Mars instead of just Matt.
