It's been a long time coming.... But Tatsuya had once thought it never would.
It's hard to tell just by looking whether it's day or night when you're out in space. It doesn't really matter, either. For them, it's dinnertime and Tatsuya's got a date planned. He'd hit up the replicator for dinner-- it might not be quite as good as the real thing, but it was a lot better than it used to be. They'd discussed the meal earlier: leg of lamb, carrots (chopped into coins), roasted asparagus, and baked potatoes with all the fixings. A nice meal, and-- Tatsuya hopes-- a nice date with his lover.
His lover. The thought still sends giddy thrills through him, and he can't help but smile softly to himself.
Jun should be here soon-- they'd agreed on a time, but he'd gone ahead early to set up. Tatsuya looks out to the stars, wondering where Earth is among all of them.
Maybe Jun will know.

Anyway, he needed to make himself as presentable as possible, which was hard with the jumpsuit and Joker's outfit being all that he had access to, but... well. He could make it work. When he arrived on the observation deck, he'd have his tank top on, and the white pants from that wretched costume, with the ends stuffed into his mag boots, leaving him looking like he was dressed in all white but for the shoes. It... worked. Wasn't his FIRST choice for a date outfit but it worked.
He sighs, wringing his fingers as he arrived on the observation deck, ignoring the stars for a moment to look for his lover. "...Tatsuya?"
no subject
He turns his head at the sound of Jun's voice, and his breath momentarily catches. It's not that the outfit is anything special, except it's Jun so of course it is. He can't help but notice that Jun wore those pants. He must have really wanted to look nice, huh? The thought sets the butterflies in his stomach into a flurry.
(Wait no, not butterflies-- hummingbirds. There we go, that's a much more pleasant thought.)
He walks over towards Jun, his strides long and purposeful. Tatsuya stops in front of him, reaching out to hold his hand.
"Jun. Hey."
no subject
And yet... he offers his hand when Tatsuya reaches for it, fingers curling around Tatsuya's as he pulls that hand up to his heart. "Tatsuya..." he responds, almost reverently, before leaning up to press a kiss to his lips.
no subject
"I'm happy to see you too." The words are gentle, somehow both teasing but also so sincere it could almost be embarrassing, if Tatsuya had any shame about it. He does not.
no subject
"I'm happy any time I get to see you", he responds with a light laugh, still holding on to Tatsuya's hand as he tugs him a little closer to the setup to get a good look at it. They had to work with what they had, but it was still so nice. So lovely, sitting here on he observation deck, seeing the stars, and getting to enjoy a meal with Tatsuya.
"Waking up in the morning and getting to see you is a dream come true, you know?"
no subject
"Yeah, I do know," he murmurs with a smile. He feels the same way. "So's being here right now."
Not the space station, of course. Being on a date with Jun, though? Priceless.
no subject
He couldn't help it. This was ridiculous. And yet he was so happy to be here, even if it was selfish.
"This looks wonderful, Tatsuya." No, of course he didn't care that it was not much. It was a date with his beloved! It could be underground with a single loaf of bread, and he'd be happy.
no subject
Another grin blossoms on Tatsuya's face at Jun's words. "I love you, too. And I'm glad you like it."
He keeps his fingers laced with Jun's as he walks him towards the food. If this is selfish, then Tatsuya will happily indulge the feeling. Bit by bit, he wants to help Jun learn to live with himself and to keep that happiness. He doesn't care whether or not it's deserved-- selfishly, he wants it for Jun.
He knows he's going to need to let go of Jun's hand in order to eat, but he doesn't think he wants to just yet. It's nice. All of this is... nice.
no subject
He did still feel bad for feeling so happy, but he didn't show it. He didn't want Tatsuya to worry, or to feel like what he did wasn't enough. It was enough. It was more than enough, really. Almost too much. Jun didn't deserve all of this, he thought through his smile, but he'd enjoy it for Tatsuya's sake.
"I suppose we should eat before it gets cold... And then we could hold hands some more?"
no subject
Future dates. The thought makes him so happy that he doesn't know how he manages to keep it contained within himself.
"I expect lots of hand-holding after dinner." The words are gentle, playful. "And stargazing, too. Maybe we can try to figure out which one is Earth."
no subject
"I'd like that. I haven't really gotten to look at the stars yet", he replied, pulling his hand away, but leaning toward Tatsuya.
no subject
"Me neither," he confesses. "I've been meaning to, but..." He shrugs slightly. "Time just kept getting away from me, I guess."
Not that they don't have all the time in the world, but there's plenty to distract from the stars... especially when things tended to go terrible wrong as often as they'd seemed to. Music for days, terrible illnesses... It all seemed like so much at times.
no subject
"When I first got here, it had spooked me a little, honestly", he replied, laughing sheepishly. It had reminded him of where they'd come from, but now he felt better about it. He glanced toward the stars for just a moment before he leaned in to get his plate, beginning to fill it.
"I wonder if there are any familiar constellations..."
no subject
Tatsuya turns to look at the food, piling up his own plate. There should be plenty of food for both of them, he'd made sure of it. Teenage boys need a lot of food, and he wasn't about to skimp out on any... especially not for date night.
"We can make our own up," Tatsuya says after a moment. "Our own constellations and our own stories for them all."
no subject
He starts to get food after Tatsuya, not getting all that much just yet. There was time for seconds later, if he were still hungry.
"We should... name one for Maya", he said after a moment. He missed her, but he didn't want to bring this nice date down too much. It was hard with Jun being.... Jun, but you know. "Maybe for each other, too. Haha, then we could say we were 'written in the stars'!"
no subject
"I like it," he says decisively. "All of it. Maybe we can find some for Lisa and Eikichi, too. I mean... Eikichi's always wanted to be a star, right?"
This is probably not what Eikichi meant. Probably not.
no subject
"I'll make a star map later, I think." He smiled, starting to eat a little bit. He was hungry of course, but was so much more interested in the stars, and sharing the moment with Tatsuya.
no subject
"I'd love to see it when you do," he says encouragingly. "I'll even help if I can."
no subject
"Of course you can! I'd get bored if I just sat out here charting out stars all today." Even if he wasn't sure how much Tatsuya could physically help with, Jun would really love to have his presence. It would help him keep focus.
no subject
Right now being part one, of course. Tatsuya takes a bite of his food, pausing in conversation to give himself a chance to chew and swallow. As he does, he brushes a hand lightly against Jun's.
no subject
"I'd love that. Maybe we can have little snacks that time." He let his fingers be touched, only barely not grasping Tatsuya's hand. It was hard to resist, but they needed to eat first, and Jun was focusing on that for now.
no subject
"Yeah, that sounds nice." He pauses briefly to nibble on a carrot. "We can work out the details later."
They have time.
no subject
"Mhm, right now I'm just... happy for this moment." He licked at his lips then, leaning back a little and leaning against Tatsuya once more.
"...You know..." he wasn't sure if he should really talk about this right now, but it was something that had made him a little happier? "...I was talking with one of the other Persona Users. One from our future, Ryuji."
"He said that the world we made was 'rad'."
no subject
"Rad, huh...?" Tatsuya tastes the word in his mouth. "I'm glad. It's our world, after all... It should be."
no subject
"It should." He laughs at that, wiping at his face before leaning in to kiss Tatsuya's cheek. "And they're from... like... ten years in the future, right?"
no subject
More than half his lived experiences.... It seems inconceivable.
"But it's nice that it endures."
Despite his mistakes.
no subject
"Hey Tatsuya. What are we going to do if we're here for another ten years?"
no subject
"We'll just take things a day at a time," he says at last. "We'll have a life together. With you by my side.... anything's worth that."
He leans over to brush a light kiss against Jun's lips.
no subject
"I wish we could stay here forever. Selfish, I know, but... I just want to spend time with you", he said, sighing. "Make up for lost time, you know?" For the time when he was in Kasugayama High, separated by false memories and an unruly Persona.
no subject
"We probably can't have forever," he says, even though he wishes it weren't true. "But I'll do my best to fit in as much lost time with you as we can take. No one can take right now from us."
Not even Nyarlathotep.
no subject
He shrugs then, getting back to the food. "Oh, by the way, Okumura-san told me that she's harvested some plants from the garden. So there's a start to something like outside, right?"
no subject
"I'm hopeful about the planet," Tatsuya says as he gets back to his own food. "Maybe someday, we'll be able to go down."
He pauses as he considers the rest of what Jun said, then adds: "Real food.... I miss the taste of real food."
no subject
He smiles at the though, wondering what they could discover down there. "Imagine it. The crunch of real carrots!" He laughs a little, still eating the ones that were here. There were fine, really! But in the end he'd really prefer some real vegetables.
no subject
A real one, not created by rumours or with any world-ending strings attached.... Tatsuya presses his hand to his chest and sighs. Imagine.
no subject
"We'll have to keep our eyes on the hangar, and on the network for anyone else who is getting in there."
no subject
"I can handle that," Tatsuya says with a hum. "Maybe I should help try and get to the space ships."
He really, really wants to fly one now that he's thought of it.
no subject
"Yeah! I think that'd be great. I really want to get to the planet... and maybe document the plants there? I don't know, just some fresh air would be nice."
no subject
"Fresh air would be so nice," Tatsuya agrees with a soft sigh. "Do you think any of the plants down there might be edible?"
How do people even check for that, he idly wonders.
