by which i mean, the station-wide drinking party venus has been wanting to throw since she got here. let's keep things friendly, everyone!

[She sighs loudly, part general near-contentment and part thought.]

Maybe. Don't want to get sick. [She splays her hands on the table and steadies herself with careful focus.] This is a weird thing to be doing, with everything like it is, but it's not bad. Are you actually being responsible, or did you want to join in?

Taking a short break is probably a good idea, at least.

[Now that he has someone to sit with, he slides into the seat opposite her, just kind of awkwardly holding his drink in both hands.]

You're right about it being weird, but... maybe this'll help people get along better. If nothing else, it's a good way to get to know the people around you, right?

[He says, having done nothing himself but watch from the sidelines just as awkwardly as he's holding his drink. He makes a face down at it, tries for a sip, and has to do his best to surpress a full body shudder. Still not as bad as the first time, but goodness, at least give the boy some oj to mix with it.

He lets out another embarrassed laugh.]

Who knows? Maybe I just haven't found the stuff that actually tastes good.

[Everyone else must be drinking Good Stuff, it's just Hajime who's stuck with jet fuel, duh. It's not the neatest dodge, but there's just no cool way to admit that he's never had alcohol before in his life, let alone been to this kind of party, and wouldn't know how to join in if he wanted to.]

I found out who's kissed people. Not very, uh, revealing.

[Erika watches him cautiously attack his drink like a fucking hawk.]

It all tastes like garbage. [Bluntly stated. She gets tired of sitting upright and slumps over the table, chin in her crossed arms.] I don't think there's a reason to drink it except wanting to get drunk. Which is kind of sad. But it does feel good in some ways. Others it's just weird? It's kind of like being under sedation. If you've ever had a procedure done.

[Mooshes her forehead against her arms for a moment and lifts her face back up.]

Being responsible isn't a bad idea.

[That's another thing... Another reason why he hadn't just tried to join in. With those kinds of questions, he'd just embarrass himself.]

Oh, great. At least I'm not the only one.

[Trying for another sip. Maybe the problem is that he's just not used to the taste, and he'll grow to like it? He doubts it, but. Considering some people with guns' opinions of alcohol on this station, he doesn't exactly want anyone to see him wasting it, either.]

Speaking of being responsible... [He tilts his head, gives her a smile even though his throat is burning.] Do you want some water or anything? I'll go get it for you.

-I'm coming with.

[She heard "water" and "go" and parsed that as Hinata going somewhere and just kind of made up her mind, bracing her hands on the table and sliding carefully back out of her chair.]

W-whoa, hang on!

[He reaches out as if to hold her shoulder, but again stops short. Just ready to steady her if it does look like she's going to fall.]

I'm just going to go to the bar and see if there's any water. I'll be right back, don't worry.

[She's up! She's got this. Mostly.

And she frowns but nods at his reassurance, letting him head off to grab her some water.

And then once his back is turned she starts following him anyways, navigating around chairs with exaggerated caution. GOTTA MOVE WHILE SHE FEELS LIGHT AND FREEEEE]

[He really is hoping she's going to stay put as he heads for the bar and starts rummaging past bottles, hoping the dustier ones are the less popular ones. And the more likely to be non-alcoholic.

...Is someone behind him? He glances behind and--]

Mishima!!

[He said wait!]

[A pointed, defiant stare.]

[He really does his best not to sigh and just shakes his head with exasperation. Damn it, Erika.]

Nothing. Oh, here-!

[This clear bottle is tucked in the back. He pulls it out and pops it open, cautiously taking a sip. Mmm dust. And. Just tastes like dust, really, which probably means,]

Here, it's water. Want some?

[At the last second, he remembers to phrase it as a question, and not an order. Because she'd probably just tell him no if she thought he was telling her to do it, considering she followed him over here.]

[She takes the bottle, and pauses for a moment.]

You put your mouth on it.

[Her tone is exactly the same tone you would use to bitch about your brother putting his elbow on your side of the car.

But she takes a swig anyways.]

Sorry. Next time I'll just give you unlabeled bottles without trying them for you first.

[Deadpan, but also,]

I'm glad you're having a good time, Mishima.

[She sputters into a laugh at that, sharp and abrupt, spitting some water. It ends up on her arm, which she shakes once to clear it of droplets, sloshing some of the bottle's contents right onto the floor.]

-Sorry! Sorry, here. [She tries to give it back...]

[Oh... she laughed. That's kind of cute? Usually she has her emotions so tightly under wraps that they're difficult to see, so hearing her laugh is... nice. Immediately, he makes a resolution to try to make her laugh more often.]

Whoa!

[But he jumps a little when there's water spilling on the floor, reaching out to steady the bottle so she doesn't accidentally overturn it or anything.]

No, it's fine. Do you want me to put it in a glass instead? There's some pretty fancy ones back here that I don't think are broken...

It's easier to spill a glass than a bottle.

[She thinks...her problem....is that she's standing up. Any focus spent on standing is focus not spent on something else. Cut processes, improve performance. Logic! So hang on while she sits down on the ground.]

[She's just... bypassing the bar stools completely, huh? Just sitting right there on the floor.

Hajime huffs a quiet laugh through his nose and takes another look behind the bar, looking for something else. Maybe he should stay away from the colored stuff? That's probably stronger. The littler bottles are p...probably beer? He doesn't know what beer tastes like to be sure, but he takes one of those and the bottle of dusty water before joining her on the floor. Water for her, mystery liquid(tm) for him.

It's not weird to sit on the floor if they're both doing it, right?]

So what other games do people usually play at parties? [he asks, because Erika seems comfortable enough right now that she must have done this kind of thing before, right? He twists the cap off the bottle with a grunt and tries for a sip. It's... not worse than what he was drinking earlier, but it's not much better, either. A little bubbly, making him cough with surprise.] Maybe we can play some.

[Logic being that it'll encourage Erika to drink more water, and also maybe have fun at the same time. Flawless.]

I don't know. [Said like, why would he ask her? That's weird. Ask someone else. She tries again with the water bottle and yeah actually it goes better this time. SCORE ONE FOR LOGIC.] That's, mm, that's what Venus knows. I think, according to manga, King's Game. But that would be silly. And telling ghost stories, maybe.

Oh... yeah, she seems like the type who would know.

[He'd just thought Erika might. Also know?

He moves to bring a hand to his lips to help him think, and bonks the bottle against his lips instead. Oh. Right. He was holding that, huh. He takes another sip and rests the bottle on the floor between his crossed legs.]

I've never played King's Game, but... you need cards for that, right? And I don't know any ghost stories.

[...Hang on. Maybe he does know one.]

[She puts her elbows on her knees and leans forward to listen.]

[He holds both hands up to try to block it, but it's too late. He's been Beaned.

But he's laughing. That kind of reaction is kind of funny, too? He can't help it.]

[She calmly takes another drink of water and then deliberately flumps over onto the ground, mad as hell that she had to hear that.]

[Well, Operation Make Erika Laugh failed miserably. But it made him laugh, so maybe that's okay.]

[She rolls over enough to moosh her face on the ground.]
