Naomi Nagata | ota

001.

[ Naomi is no stranger to zero g. The usual station gravity is akin to what she's used to on a rock or when her ship is cruising, but most any journey involves cutting the drive at least a few times. It's a cardinal rule of space travel that you always have your mag boots on and she's spent the past five years almost exclusively on ships, so even though this is a station it's just habit now. Which means that when the rings jolt and suddenly stop, she's at an advantage. For a moment she does float, drifting gently towards the ceiling of this deck, and then as naturally as breathing pushes off of it to send herself back towards the floor, engaging her boots and clicking back to the metal.

Something clearly just broke, and Naomi's lips curve into a tiny smile despite the gravity (sorrynotsorry) of the situation. Maybe, just maybe, it's something she can fix. The odd grinding sound and subsequent crunch definitely came from above, so her priority is to get to the upper ring. No one's been able to gain access to the shaft, or what she's assuming is the main station control area, but she knows the airlocks up there are open. It's time to take a little spacewalk and figure out what's going on.

She sends her crew a quick message to meet up and then moves through the corridors of the station as if nothing is wrong, so accustomed to zero g. Anyone she passes that might be in a bit more trouble, she'll stop to help. Get them oriented the right way, explain how to keep their mag boots engaged, and offer tips for moving around. It'll be okay. They'll get this fixed. ]

002.ish / at the airlock

[ Alex's announcement is up, and the space folk have taken up positions at the airlocks to help potential explorers with their suits. The vast majority of folks on the station have never been to space to know how to properly seal a vac suit, and who knows how old these things are in the first place? They should be checked over at least, preferably by someone who knows what they're looking at.

Naomi tests the oxygen packs on the available suits while she waits for people to show up, nodding to herself in approval when it seems like they're all full. And when the first person arrives she'll smile encouragingly, pulling a vac suit out of its compartment and holding it out to them. ]

Ever done this before? I've got a few tips, if you want to hear them.

[ The way she says it makes it sound like she's going to offer them anyway, and you probably should listen. Safety first, friend. ]

002.1 / outside

[ Well then. Perhaps Naomi won't be as useful here as she was hoping to be... she doesn't actually have any tools capable of cutting through the debris, and isn't particularly strong to help push at it. As she isn't needed for an actual repair the spot would probably be better taken by someone burlier, so she considers just going back in and giving her vac suit to someone better suited to the task. But she doesn't get the chance. As she tries to signal to her friends that she's turning back, another bit of debris catches her in the side, hard enough to knock the wind out of her lungs and her boots from the side of the station. And they have no tethers. Shit.

Hopefully someone notices her floating off, because it doesn't look like she's angled to hit another ring. ]
