But stains means it definitely wasn't in Alex's head, something physical happened to him. And when he recovered from it, whatever fixed him healed the arm too. That was two unexplained events, technically.

What they need is a proper scientist, and a proper lab for them to work in. To take air samples from the walls and vents, to check the water, to swab the stains in Alex's quarters. Without that... hmm. Maybe she should try and get samples anyway, in case it's possible to test them later.
