@hinatahajime;
hey, uh... i found a nantendo 64 console and some games in the command center. so add that to the list of random crap we've found, i guess
the better news is that it's all multiplayer stuff. there's a racing game, a party game, and a fighting game. i'm going to test it all out and make sure it works, but assuming it does, would anybody mind if i set it up in the bar near the VR room? i'd like to get a bunch of people together so we can really test the multiplayer. if it all works i'll probably just leave it there so anyone can play it
mingle; open!
[As he said in his earlier post to the network, he's set up the Nantendo-brand console near the VR room, plugged into one of the terminals. There are four controllers plugged into the console that definitely look like NES controllers, but they all work. There's also three games to choose from!Mario Marco's Carts, Marco's Party, and Excellent Slam Sisters Fisticuffs (Smash Bros. It's Smash Bros.) All game avatars are strangely customizable and surprisingly good at rendering what the player actually looks like, but it's fine. Don't question it too much.]
a; set-up
[--Is actually surprisingly easy. Hajime had been a little concerned about what kind of nest of wires he'd have to deal with, but once the system is hooked up to the terminal itself, it powers on just like normal.]
It doesn't need a power source, huh...? Does it charge wirelessly like my Game Girl...?
[Now that he's looking at it more closely, he doesn't even see a place for a cord to plug into the wall. Well that's weird.]
I guess I'll try Marco's Carts first...
[Sorry if you were trying to enjoy your drinks in peace. Hajime has a bad habit of talking out loud to himself when he thinks he's alone.]
b; vidya gaem
[Once people have actually started showing up, whether they meant to or not, Hajime's pretty quick to surrender controllers and encourage them to play. Have a seat, try not to ruin any friendships with Marco's Party. Turn them into drinking games? He won't stop you. Not that he doesn't want to play, too, but he'll play later. For now, he's happy watching other people play. It's almost enough to forget how terrible the station can be. Almost.
He brought his handheld Nantendo Game Girl, too, but the only game on that is a single-playerGalaga Gala Omega. He's not playing it right now, but it's on the table nearby if anybody wants to try their hand at it.]
Have you ever played any of these before? They're pretty popular where I come from.
c; wildcard
[Hajime's going to be hanging around for a while, on-hand to fix any technical errors that might come up with the console (just blow in the cartridge, it's fine) or just chat about video games, home, hanging out, etc. I'm also gonna be tagging top-levels when I can so. points at eyes points at yall]

Adrian "Alucard" Ţepeş | OTA
But it's difficult to want to socialize There are too many reasons not to.
Eventually, Alucard does arrive, looking almost casual with a white tunic and black trousers on rather than his jumpsuit.]
Hm. [Alucard looks over the video game system.
He has no idea what he's looking at, to be perfectly honest.]
no subject
[Hajime's still trying to figure out where he wants to have the console set up. He doesn't want it out in the middle of the floor where someone could step on it and break it by accident, but he also wants the controller cords to reach as far as possible. Hm. Maybe he could just put it up on a table...? Yeah, that could work. The logistics of it is rather escaping him, so he's relieved to see the older boy as a distraction from that.]
Come here, sit down. Do you think you'd like a racing game, a fighting game, or a game that's more based on chance?
no subject
I... could not tell you, truthfully. Fighting, I suppose.
[He knows more about that than racing or presumably gambling. It sounds like gambling. Marco's Party is gambling.]
no subject
[--Hm. He needs to start at the beginning. He leans forward to insert the cartridge before passing Alucard a controller. The menu music starts up, the game projected clearly through the terminal as the announcer calls EXCELLENT SLAM SISTERS FISTICUFFS. A few button presses to get them to a solo match, no CPU, then he pauses.]
Go ahead and pick your Nantendo character... they all have different moves, but the basics are the same. I'll show you how the controls work once the level starts, okay? Just use these buttons-- [He leans closer, indicating the arrow buttons,] to go up, down, left, or right. We can give making custom characters a try later.
no subject
[A voice offers from behind him, attached to one Minato Arisato. He wasn't exactly a top tier gamer by any means, but he could definitely show Alucard how some of these games worked, at the very least...]
no subject
Yes, if you wouldn't mind. I had nothing like this back in Wallachia. I wouldn't know where to begin.
no subject
[Minato leans down to look at the game selection, weighing the pros and cons before ultimately making a decision, holding it up for Alucard to see.]
A fighting game might be a good place to start...?
a
Okay, he wasn't that good at them, but it was Hajime, so he figured he should show up anyway and see what he was up to. It'd been a while since he set foot back in the bar, since the last time he was there was either... getting wasted accidentally or dropping a wine case of bottles on the ground at Gundam stripping out of his jimmies.
God.]
Yo.
[Approaching, he's scoping out what titles he has to work with in this library.]
Got some room for a 2nd player?
no subject
Marco's Carts, Marco's Party, and ESSF cartridges are laid out on the table in plain view. What could be better for a weird find on the command deck?]
Hey, Ryuji. Stand over here, tell me if the screen looks good.
[Hajime's in the middle of testing out the "screen," stepping forward and back, tilting his head to make sure it's projecting properly and there's no lag between button presses, and the screen's response. He flashes a grin back over his shoulder, clearly pleased with himself.]
Pretty cool, right? Something like this can work even with this weird technology on the station.
no subject
Also, his tightie whities are permanently going to be tightie- right around his hips, hugging him and loving him as it should always be.]
Hmm... I can't really tell what it would look like at its best? So I'm gonna say that it's fine.
[He does, however, furtively sneak a pic with his smartwatch. He's found that it's worth it to capture the fun stuff since all the bad stuff keeps seeming to happen. Maybe it's something worth hanging onto, and seeing Hajime going at it and trying to set up video games? Good shit.]
'Sides, you don't need a great picture to see me utterly handing you down a platter of ironing board straight to your pride.
no subject
More importantly, he's going to EARN those pantsu.]
If you say so...
[He gives it another critical once-over before deciding that yeah, it's fine. People should be happy they even have a system that works, after all!!]
...A platter of what?
[He laughs, more confused than anything, and holds out a controller.]
Yeah, we'll see. Which game are you best at? I have to make sure to give you a fair shot, you know.
no subject
Last chance to back out, dude. We could play a co-op game, but if you wanna go head to head, it's your funeral. I'll make sure to engrave the tombstone for ya. "Here lies Hajime Hinata. He thought he was swole.
[Can I just say how disgusted I am writing that? Like, god, this kid is the worst.
Anyway, he looks over the titles.]
Marco's Carts.
Jennifer | OTA
When a game's been cleared of players--this one just happens to be the fighting game--Jennifer sits curiously an picks up the controller, turning it around in her hands before hesitantly pressing a button. When the game announcer declares her to pick a fighter and brings up the character select screen, she drops her controller with a clatter in surprise]
Oh!
[WHAT DID SHE DO.]
no subject
You alright? It's kind of startling at first, huh?
no subject
Y-yes, I'm alright. I'm sorry. I wasn't really expecting it to speak to me. [Or in her general direction, she supposes, since it certainly wasn't trying to actually communicate with her specifically but. STILL.
She smiles a bit shyly] Are these the kinds of games you played back home?
no subject
[He's offering her the controller back, so he's clearly not mad about it or trying to take it away. He just huffs a quiet laugh and nods, picking up one of the others to join as player two.]
Yeah, these are some of them. I haven't done a lot of multiplayer stuff since I was a kid, though... it's a little nostalgic.
Are you having fun?
no subject
Most of the games I played were make-believe, or board games, or card games. This seems a little more... complex. But it's fun, I think. At least, I'm having fun watching how things play.
[She laughs a little, then looks curiously to him] Did you play with your friends back home often?
no subject
[He laughs quietly, thumbing through the controls to pick the titular Marco for himself, though he doesn't progress further than that.]
I... not really, no. Well, there was one girl I met who I played Gala Omega with after school sometimes, but...
[How does he say "I didn't have any friends because none of them were as ambitious as I was and wanted to belong as badly as I did," without sounding like a total loser?]
I guess I drifted apart from most of my friends after middle school, you know? You go to different schools, have different interests.
no subject
I never... really liked school all that much, I think. I remember having a governess when I was a child, but-- [Jennifer pauses, hesitating, because she's not sure if Hajime really cares or wants to hear about this sort of thing in the first place. Isn't it rather rude to just be offering information out of the blue like this??
She glances to him and then away, down at her lap as she fiddles with the joysticks.]
I ended up in an orphanage for a little while. I learned the important things-- how to read and write and work with numbers. But education wasn't really important to them. And it wasn't very important for a girl to begin with...
[She smiles humorlessly.] When I left the orphanage I went to school for a little while, but, the war... It was better for me to leave and try to help around the home. I believe I might've mentioned I was thinking of joining the war efforts and become a field nurse.
...But... I never really made any friends. I never got close to anyone--I can't name a single friend... [She knew the reasons for that now, but at the time she thought maybe it was just because she was broken somehow. Which, well, she sort of was, but at least now she knew why.]
a.
Need another player?
no subject
[He's not expecting an unfamiliar voice over his shoulder, so he jumps a little, glancing back and blinking a few times.]
Oh, yeah. Have you played Marco's Carts before? I want to make sure there's no lag between the controller and the terminal.
[He holds out his hand instead of a controller, though.]
I'm Hinata, by the way. I don't think we've met.
no subject
[He didn't mean to startle you Hinata... but he definitely was a quiet guy who had a habit of accidentally sneaking up on people. Oops.]
Yeah, a few times. I wouldn't call myself great at it by any means, though.
[Oh!!]
Hinata from the network? I'm Minato, we talked once before.
no subject
[A flash of recognition.]
It was... Arisato, right? Good to meet you in person.
[The smile on his face is absolutely genuine as he shakes the other boy's hand, then finally surrenders a controller.]
I'm not that great at it either, but between the two of us, maybe we can at least beat the CPUs, huh?
no subject
[Minato has a distaste for shaking hands, not being big on touch with people he doesn't know, but Hinata's just so genuine that he bites back the displeasure and responds in kind regardless.]
I hope so. Let's just not set their levels too high yet.
