0 0 1 » THERE'S AN APP FOR THAT

A new function has appeared on the communication device for some characters: a strange symbol with an eye, and no obvious use. Do you try to delete it? It might work, for a little while. But it comes back, no matter what lengths you take to get rid of this thing.

If a character chooses to run the app, they'll find that it's called the Metanav, and it speaks to them in a feminine voice: "Please enter a destination." It seems to want a voice command.

Unfortunately, any combination of words you try will result in a gentle error sound and that voice saying, "Conditions have not been met." There's no lock-out or limit to how many attempts you can make, and it will keep rejecting every try.

(As a note of interest, the name Goro Akechi in full, spoken anywhere near a device that carries the Metanav -- a one in a million chance, sure, but coincidences happen -- will earn a victorious chime from the app and a triumphant, "Destination found." But from there it seems to want more keywords...)

0 0 2 » ENTER THE METAVERSE

A few days after the Metanav appearing for some residents of the station, someone is definitely putting it to use. But Reverie is a close-quarters situation, and not every corner and corridor can be checked before turning on the app. On top of that, some devices are activating the Metanav on their own, without a destination at all -- people are being dragged in left and right.

You feel something strange wash over you, like vertigo. But nothing seems to have happened. You're still in the station, and your surroundings are... mostly normal. Actually, something isn't quite right. It's hard to put your finger on it; the air feels wrong, heavy, and the shadows are darker, the station even more unsettling than usual.

And everyone around you is gone.

You can search for hours, and maybe you'll find one or two other unfortunate souls in the same situation as you, but that's it. The rest of the station's residents have vanished.

If you have the Metanav app on your communication device, you're in luck: using it will bring you right back to the station as normal, like sliding between one plane of reality to another. If you don't have the Metanav... you're stuck. Alone.

0 0 3 » HERE THERE BE SHADOWS

Wandering around the strange "other" station is mostly uneventful. Everything about it seems to be unchanged in terms of layout; the same doors are still blocked off, the rooms are in the same locations, the view from the Observation Deck is the vast expanse of space...

But you're not as alone here as you thought.

There are monsters. They come in various shapes and sizes, some of them humanoid and some of them far from it. There don't seem to be a lot of them around, so it's easy to miss them entirely, but if you do run into them, they'll attack without hesitation, and some of them are strong.

If you can fight back: magic is most effective against them in every case. Fighting them physically is a strange case, because if you think it will work, it will, no matter what your weapon. If you don't think it'll work, then it won't.

If you can't fight back, and nobody comes to save you: you're dead. At least you'll wake up in the real world.

0 0 4 » YOU'RE NOT ME

There's one more thing populating the "other" station. They come and go at random, sometimes there and sometimes not -- strange, spectral images of other people. Their faces are vague and they don't seem to have any interest in you, seeming to talk to themselves even when you try to get their attention, but they're definitely people. They have enough features to tell them apart, and some of them seem almost familiar.

One of them is you.

It's not a clear image, just enough to be distinguishable, but it is you. Like looking at your own ghost. Its eyes, though -- its eyes are a little bit wrong. Yellowish.

This plot was brought to you by your Persona cast! All players who have signed up can have the Metaverse app appear on their communicators. The Phantom Thieves are here to rescue anyone who wants their heart stolen, and are available to discuss plotting. Once the Metaverse appears on Reverie, it will not disappear.

It happens, right? I don't want it to, ever again, but it happens and I can't do anything about it.

[ the shadow leans into the touch, letting the pressure of terezi's hand warm her. she is hot to the touch, though not painfully so, and the light coming off her is brighter than it's ever been. ]

Is this how it'll always feel?
iustitia: (maybe we should totally just stab caesar)

It won't always feel this way, but it doesn't always go away, either. It depends on the kind of person you are, I think. Grief is hard and there are no easy answers!

[The quick laugh that escapes Terezi's maw sounds sharper and sadder than she intended.] I'm probably not the right person to ask about this! I did wander space for years to look for my moirail.

That's not what I want to hear!

[ but the alarm in her voice is only joking, mostly. slowly, she leans her head in against terezi's hand - giving a small nuzzle in lieu of anything she could do back with her hands. ]

That sounds... lonely. [ and if her voice was joking before, there's none of it now. she sounds sad, almost immeasurably so. ] So lonely? I don't ever want to be alone for that long. I don't know if I could handle it.
iustitia: (you've truly out-gayed yourself)

Yeah, well. Thems the breaks! [oops. that's vriska's phrase. everything is a mistake!!!] Sometimes your girlfriend just up and leaves you for all eternity and there's just nothing you can do about it!

[Double oops. Was that a little too bitter? Terezi's just a little bitter. Not at Other Venus, who has Done Nothing Wrong Yet and who is A Little Soft, as Terezi is discovering, but more at the universe itself. Terezi beat Sgrub twice and all she got was this lousy T-shirt loss. She got her closure after remembering the other Terezi's life, but she lost Vriska in the end anyway. Everyone else got their happy endings and well-adjusted lives on new Earth and partners who actually lived through that final battle and she just ended up kind of being insensitive to a sad eyewing girl in space.]

Sorry. [She buries her fingers in the feathers, stroking softly.] At least I'm still around, for whatever that's worth.

Thems shouldn't be the breaks. [ they? those? doesn't matter. ] No one should ever have to deal with that. Especially not you. You're too nice for that.

[ she could keep going for ages, keep talking and building into a fervor of light and justice. because it's not fair, and they both know it! but terezi's fingers are in her feathers, and the light is shining on her grey skin, and even as a shadow venus can't find it in her to stay angry. it wouldn't help terezi, after all. it wouldn't even help her.

so instead she presses up into the contact, leaning her head so that terezi's hand is stroking at her downy cheek.
]

...it's worth a lot. So much. You don't even know. [ it's a little rambly, but - it's honest, in that way that venus has. ]
iustitia: (it's like I have espn or something)

'M not nice. I'm a big, mean troll who's done a lot of bad stuff and you'd better watch out. [It's only half serious. Terezi smiles as she keeps stroking with her thumb, and then decides fuck it, and brings her other hand up to Venus's other cheek. This is embarrassingly pale. Under normal circumstances she'd be bailing, but Terezi can't bring herself to care right now. Everything's weird and kind of sucks and for once she wants to just enjoy the moment without her brain going on about why she shouldn't.]

That's something, at least. I'm glad you're here, too.

Okay, but I don't really care? If you're big or mean or anything like that. [ the shadow closes a good portion of her eyes, letting terezi's hands stroke at her and sighing gently. ] You're also fun, and you care a lot about things, and you- you know what it's like to be lonely.

[ her actions are hesitant at first. slowly, falteringly, she reaches up with one of her wings. with her joint, the part she can most "touch" with, she runs her feathers down terezi's cheek as well. ]

I'm glad you're here too.

[ she leans in, just a tiny bit. is it... okay? is this okay? ]
iustitia: (I used to be homeschooled)

[oof ouch owie, right in the kokoro

The expression on Terezi's face doesn't crumple, but it does dent a little. That was just... an unexpectedly kind thing to hear, and it punched right through to some of her vulnerabilities like she was paper. Though maybe she should have expected it. Venus is just kind of like that.

She breathes in slowly as Venus touches her face, her senses awash with light and gold. The smell of shadow is still there, but Terezi is beyond caring about that right now. She closes the distance between them, brushing her lips against Venus's.

Yeah. Yeah, this is okay.]

[ terezi's lips brush hers, and the shadow doesn't hesitate to kiss back - softly, gently, like earth's sunlight dancing against terezi's blackened lips. she gently runs the joint that might have been a hand once down terezi's neck, and with her spare wing she engulfs terezi in that same warm light.

she probably won't remember any of this in the real world - venus, that is. but maybe terezi will leave an impression, grey skin lit by feathers and eyes, and maybe that impression will somehow live on. it's something to hope for.
