[ 1; Chapel; ]

[ Kanan makes his way into the nearest quiet room from where he woke up - this place feels all wrong to him, and he's not sure why. Meditation, though - that's what he needs. He needs to calm himself, center himself, and - all unknowing - he chooses the chapel to do so.

Settling in, legs tucked under him on the floor, he takes a few deep breaths, and then reaches out - to the web of energy that connects all life - and finds -

Well, he finds Ezra quickly enough, their bond as strong as it ever is, and he's nearby, Kanan can tell, and that's reassuring. But the others...

Usually, no matter how far apart they are, on opposite ends of the galaxy even, Kanan can reach out through the Force and sense his family. He can find Sabine and Zeb and Hera (not a day has gone by in almost ten years that he hasn't been able to sense Hera) but today... today they're gone, and it distresses him. He doesn't allow himself to panic, but it unmoors him a little, weakens his concentration.

Nonetheless, he can certainly sense anyone who approaches him. ]

I don't suppose you can tell me who's responsible for bringing us here?

[ B; Mess hall ]

[ Kanan is at least good enough at following his nose to make his way to where most of the food is kept. Of course, that doesn't mean the food is any good, or edible for him. Or that he can figure out what it even is, given that he's blind and therefore has to rely on his other senses. ]

Okay, just answer me one question: is there something here other than protein milk and ration bars?

Not many people do, in my time. It's mostly illegal to even talk about.

[ So, yeah, a little surprising. ]

But it's always nice to hear when someone does. Remember them, anyway.

My mother had no patience for laws enforced by men with no morals. I like to think I've followed in her footsteps that way.

Hm. [ Kanan taps his knees for a moment. ] Rebel Alliance?

[ she nods ] Yes. Callsign Rogue One. Have you heard of us?

I haven't, but I also don't usually get invited to the Important People Meetings.

My apprentice and I are both with Phoenix Squadron, though. Before that we were the Lothal cell.

[adjy]

I spent most of my life refusing to join the Rebels. I thought it was suicide.

[ maybe it was. it likely had been for them, if she ever gets to go home and find out how that story plays through. ]

But then there was a mission. One only I could complete.

[kanyounot]

It pretty much is suicide, yeah. It just depends on whether you care more about living than about fighting for something.

[ He says that with no judgment implied. Most people will and should choose to live. ]

I avoided it for a long time, too. Kept my head down.

[ she nods, keeping her head down. that's an accurate depiction of what she'd done as well. ]

What we did was bigger than our lives. It may well have won the war.

[ otherwise she never would have gotten involved. ]

Good. When I left, things weren't looking too great for the Rebellion.

[ Atollon had been a low point, for sure. They lost a base, they lost a lot of good people. It was going to be hard to bounce back from. ]

I'm sorry to hear that.

[ and to her credit, she sounds sincere. ]

My team may well never make it off Scarif, but it will still be worth it. History will reward us.

[ it's ironic to say that while bodhi and herself are here, perhaps. ]

Mm. I've got a sneaking suspicion I don't have much longer, either. But I made my peace with that a long time ago.

Some of us make that choice, to give ourselves over to something bigger than us. A greater good.

[ He smiles wryly. ]

Buuuuuut we'll have to find a way off this station in the meantime.
