@all (from @r.asuka)

[ On the morning of the 15th, there is a network-wide ping issued approximately twenty-three minutes after the roster is released to the public. ]

Hello.

As I'm certain you all are aware, a roster has been sent to each of our devices. Given that this is yet another item on a growing list to be examined by us all, I believe it's important for each of us to come together to discuss any possible concerns or ideas that may require teamwork.

@PALPATINE and I earlier discussed the possibility of a non-compulsory meeting to sort through these issues. We agreed it would be in our best interests.

If you're inclined, please come to the Mess Hall at 19:00 in three day's time.

[ ooc: so! this will be broken down into sub-headings as discussed on the ooc plot post and utilized as a kind of "catch-all." if you think anything needs to be added at any time, please feel free to contact me through pm, at [plurk.com profile] rasasvada, or on disco at morning star#3715. or, you know, add it yourself! i don't mind.

noticeably, this is self-directed! if you character wants to speak or make a point to everyone, feel free to do so. no one is policing how this goes or making introductory comments or whatever else. open floor, y'all. ]

I saw that. If I can find one, would you know how to use it?

[She asks, leaning in, deeply focused.]

After all the searching for the voices in the walls, I think the entire place is honeycombed.
tumang: (wcab1_64)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-21 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
A sealing gun? Yeah, I can use it. I can teach you to use it, too. It's not rocket science.

[ Unlike some of the other stuff he knows about. ]

It's not usually how these places are built, but with the shit that's been happening, I wouldn't rule it out.
veristitalian: (incredulous and scornful)

[personal profile] veristitalian 2018-05-21 11:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'll search for one.

[She doesn't have it yet. But she's keeping it as a mental priority, because;]

You've lived in space before? You know a little about this?
tumang: (wcab1_40)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-21 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Amos nods, letting his gun down to his side, pointed at the floor. For now, there is no threat around. This lady is regal, too, carrying herself in a way that makes Amos want to stand straighter. He forces himself to remain as neutral as he can be. ]

I have, and I do. This place doesn't have the same tech I know from back home, but it's similar enough. I'm a ship's mechanic, so this stuff is kind of my specialty. I guess it's your first time, huh?
veristitalian: (traditional old vorin hair)

[personal profile] veristitalian 2018-05-22 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
It is.

[She agrees, and takes a few steps closer so they can speak quietly without disrupting the flow of the room.]

Each new risk someone describes is more unsettling than the last. All the rest aside, I'd like us not to kill ourselves up here, making some amateur mistake.

Outside of all the shit with walls swallowing people up and waking up with wires -

[ Unconsciously, Amos rubs at the makeshift sutures on his lower stomach where he cut the wire out. ]

I think our biggest worry is life support. We don't know how anything is recycled, and how long it's set to be working for. My main priority is getting to the engineering bay to have a look under this barge's skirt, but for now I haven't got through.

veristitalian: (blanched with shock)

[personal profile] veristitalian 2018-05-22 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
[The 'under the skirt' joke makes Jasnah's lips purse, but they have bigger problems than the fight she immediately wants to pick. For example...]

What wires?

[She'll get to the rest, but this is a report she hasn't heard.]
tumang: (easycompany-amos-31)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-22 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[ While he notices her face puckering up, he doesn't say anything, amusement growing in the corners of his own lips. ]

Huh, few of us woke up with wires under our skin. Cheek, neck, mine was on my stomach. Cut in and pulled out a copper wire. No idea how, or why, or what it was doing wiggling under there.

[ It wasn't a pleasant experience, but Amos talks about it like he would the weather; unaffected, not much emotion going on. ]
veristitalian: (traditional old vorin hair)

[personal profile] veristitalian 2018-05-23 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Wires, like is used in fabrials?

[She asks, only able to think of the metal filigree involved in the intricate devices her mothers build, the ones that turn stormlight into heat, into grain. But she already knows those don't exist in other worlds, so she corrects herself hastily.]

In jewelry?

[Jasnah still doesn't have any understanding of electricity.]
tumang: (easycompany-amos-16)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-23 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Huh?

[ It's more of a questioning noise than anything else. Fabrials? Never heard of it. ]

No, conducting wires. The stuff you find in cabling.

[ Does she really not know what he means? This would be a first. He points up at the visible cables running along some walls. ]

Like those. Connect the central energy source to the rest of the station, gives us electricity. Powers up... well, everything, really.
veristitalian: (the grim realities)

[personal profile] veristitalian 2018-05-23 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Wait. Let her get this straight.]

Your power needs to be pointed where to go and led along the way on a string?

[She nearly utters a reflexive prayer to a god she doesn't believe in, thanks that she has a little stormlight in her pocket again, because electricity sounds incredibly inefficient.]
tumang: (easycompany-amos-10)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-23 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Amos takes a moment to parse her words, before making a face, sort of nodding. ]

In simple terms, yeah, kinda. Does it seem crazy to you?
veristitalian: (confused and appalled)

[personal profile] veristitalian 2018-05-24 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Crazy? [She doesn't know. Maybe more...] Alien.

We create fabrials and infuse them with their own power. Occasionally they may be bound together to create a few effects in conjunction.
tumang: (easycompany-amos-8)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-25 11:15 am (UTC)(link)
What does a fabrial look like?

[ Just to wrap his head around it. ]
veristitalian: (Default)

[personal profile] veristitalian 2018-05-25 11:31 am (UTC)(link)
Metal, with gemstones set in it. A cuff, if it's for a person to use and it's not elaborate. A glove. An entire room, in some cases, with large stones set in significant corners or at points on walls.

Holding the stones in place and using the right spren is what it takes. My mother would be able to give you a more detailed explanation, but it's not my area of expertise.
tumang: (easycompany-amos-43)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-25 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Amos listens intently, fascinated. ]

And nothing is connecting them to anything, the energy source is in each of the gems?

[ Like... magic LEDs? ]
veristitalian: (facing up to duty)

[personal profile] veristitalian 2018-05-25 04:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Each gem contains its' own energy source, and in some case, interactive effects.

Take a ruby. Prepare a stone in a specific manner, split it in half, and affix both halves to the top of two different pens. Move one pen, the other one shifts, drawing across the page. The result is the communication system we rely on, rather than this network of yours.

Or garnets. They may influence liquid- shape and cut a garnet appropriately, manufacture it according to various specifics, and give it to an archer to affix to their glove. The garnet will draw moisture from the air towards itself, and away from the bowstring, allowing your force to continue to shoot during the rains. Similarly, smokestone may be placed in a chimney, to ensure the clean drawing of smoke from a fire- if you can't afford a larger fabrial that would eliminate the need for a fire by simply producing heat.

[Even these designs are all simple ones, but it's a technology that's still being rediscovered.]
tumang: (easycompany-amos-70)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-28 11:34 am (UTC)(link)
Shit.

[ That's - amazing. Sure, there are ways nowadays to control the weather on some degree, and advanced filtering systems. But nothing like, what. Magic, set in stones? ]

And you can do that? Prepare these stones like this?

[ Amos's eyes are fixed on the woman, very intent. ]

Can you make, I don't know, some small explosives, maybe?
veristitalian: (Default)

[personal profile] veristitalian 2018-05-28 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
No. I'm not an artefabrian. I know about it because it's my mother's passion.

[She answers, meeting his eyes, measured.]

But if you need an explosion, I can arrange one.

Why?
tumang: (easycompany-amos-44)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-29 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
Doors. We need to get through to Ops, and to Engineering. It can give us answers as to why we're here. And every time we try to get anything done, everyone ends up feeling all weird and like they need a nap. An explosion - a controlled one, a precise one just exactly where we need it to be to pop a door open might do the trick.

[ He shrugs. ]

At least, it's worth a shot.
veristitalian: (Default)

[personal profile] veristitalian 2018-05-29 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
I don't have enough stormlight to take down a door, no.

[She says, letting a breath out.]

If it had conventional hinges, perhaps, but not as they are here. Not sliding down with a full connection from edge to edge.
tumang: (easycompany-amos-2)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-29 04:30 pm (UTC)(link)
It could be worth trying to shortcut a door panel. Maybe we could force one open if we disabled the electronics. I've managed to get airlocks and hatches open by short-cutting them, but not the other doors.

[ He pauses, looking up, thinking for a moment. ]

How big can you go?
veristitalian: (conversational formal)

[personal profile] veristitalian 2018-05-30 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
It doesn't work the way you're thinking.

[She amends, shaking her head.]

I don't cause the explosion. I soulcast the materials, and those cause it. Soulcasting is taking a substance, and using stormlight to transform- right now I could take a glass of water, and turn the contents into a rock the size of my fist. Or, getting through a panel earlier, I turned key connecting pieces of the metal itself into blood. Oil and fire are both possible.
tumang: (easycompany-amos-57)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-30 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
What did that do? Turning the metal into blood, I mean?

[ She doesn't know what electricity is, and yet here she is, turning metal to blood. It's a miracle the station hasn't been vented yet. ]
veristitalian: (Default)

[personal profile] veristitalian 2018-05-30 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I did the edges of the pieces I wanted to remove. It weakened the panel enough that I could take it down by force, and get into the wall, and access to the tubing there.

[More wires, though she hasn't put that together, absent information about insulation.]

But it took everything I had to do a space two hands across, and that was working with some of the natural features and ridges of the wall panels. It also did activate the station's defence mechanism.
