Hello.

As I'm certain you all are aware, a roster has been sent to each of our devices. Given that this is yet another item on a growing list to be examined by us all, I believe it's important for each of us to come together to discuss any possible concerns or ideas that may require teamwork.

@PALPATINE and I earlier discussed the possibility of a non-compulsory meeting to sort through these issues. We agreed it would be in our best interests.

If you're inclined, please come to the Mess Hall at 19:00 in three day's time.

[She definitely hasn't fallen into a belonging here yet, and isn't sure if she ever will. That doesn't stop her from trying, at least. She's a fighter, even when she isn't sure what she's doing.]

When you say we, do you mean the three of us? [Yes, she's counting Max in that.]

Or are you already taking responsibility for everyone else here too?

[ he turns an offended glance at her, almost knocking their heads with the abrupt action. whoops. ]

I'm not-- [ goddamn karen page for always knowing him. ] There are people who need to get home. People with kids, kids with parents. [ he thinks of alex with his estranged family and prax with his lost daughter especially, but kamala too of course, and he swallows as he turns away from her to the crowd. ] I'm gonna do everything I can to get 'em home.

[He always cares more than he lets on, more than he ever wants to. It makes her smile to feel right about that, and to know him far better than he wants her to. ]

So it's only the people with family that you're watching out for? I'm offended, Frank.

[It's important to note that she is in no way serious and sounds completely ridiculous, because it's whispered to him during one of those awkward moments when there's total silence in the mess hall. oops.]

[ he makes a face and elbows her in the side (geNTLy) ]

Asshole. You know you're my priority #1. [ it's stage-whispered back, but the sincerity is palpable anyway. ]

[She elbows right back, and just barely manages to keep from laughing. Nothing could stop her from smiling though.]

If you said that a little louder and without trying to knock me out of my seat, I might just believe you.

[ it's time for him to grin smugly, almost sharky when he bares his teeth. ]

Which part? [ he cranks the volume a couple decibels for maximum eavesdropping potential. ]

The part where revealing your number one priority lets everyone know your weakness.

[She dryly counters, keeping her voice to a whisper that only he can hear. He gets another elbow to his side, and she leaves it there and grinds it in like it will actually change how he responds.]

[ one hand shifts down to protectively wrap around his ribs. stop hurting him!!!! jk he couldn't actually feel your elbows karen no matter how razor sharp they are. ]

Cat's already outta that bag.

[ that one was over the first time he saved her life, no matter how ott he's being rn ]

[Her skeletor elbows drop away from him so she can fold her hands in her lap. Someone's talking about something that seems important so she waits to retort until she listens and sees what they have to say.]

What if there isn't a job that fits for everyone?

[It's less about earning her keep and more about going literally crazy if she doesn't have any purpose or something to do while she's here.]

We're, what? 80 people on this shit-barge? We've got no way into the control room, cockpit, none of that. There's something for everyone to do, Karen.

[ this is the corps talking, honestly. everyone does their part. that's how they get out of here. ]

[She really can't handle that kind of Frank Castle practical optimism, especially not when she's trying to stay light and borderline sarcastic.]

[ he snorts - humorlessly - at that ]

I'm saying that list is just the beginning of shit we've gotta do around here. Anything helps.

[She gives his foot a hard nudge with hers, causing Max to lift his head and look up at them both like they're monsters. She just barely manages to keep from laughing, but has to cover her mouth with her hand to stay quiet.]

Then maybe we should start by paying attention?

[ he draws his foot back, stop abusing him !!!!! it's upsetting the dog. frank runs the side of a magboot against the dog's short fur to appease him, shaking his head when max rolls into his back in anticipation for belly rubs. ]

I'm listening. [ he taps the side of his head before leaning over to rub max. #puppywhipped ] Steel trap.

[She casts him an amused smile, but doesn't say anything. He probably does have a mind like a steel trap, even when it seems like he's just playing around. Settling down after that, she lets silence lapse between them. It's companionable, their heads still tipped toward one another even as they observe the conversations going on around them.]
