Hello.

As I'm certain you all are aware, a roster has been sent to each of our devices. Given that this is yet another item on a growing list to be examined by us all, I believe it's important for each of us to come together to discuss any possible concerns or ideas that may require teamwork.

@PALPATINE and I earlier discussed the possibility of a non-compulsory meeting to sort through these issues. We agreed it would be in our best interests.

Like those. Connect the central energy source to the rest of the station, gives us electricity. Powers up... well, everything, really.

[Wait. Let her get this straight.]

Your power needs to be pointed where to go and led along the way on a string?

[She nearly utters a reflexive prayer to a god she doesn't believe in, thanks that she has a little stormlight in her pocket again, because electricity sounds incredibly inefficient.]

[ Amos takes a moment to parse her words, before making a face, sort of nodding. ]

In simple terms, yeah, kinda. Does it seem crazy to you?

Crazy? [She doesn't know. Maybe more...] Alien.

We create fabrials and infuse them with their own power. Occasionally they may be bound together to create a few effects in conjunction.

What does a fabrial look like?

[ Just to wrap his head around it. ]

Metal, with gemstones set in it. A cuff, if it's for a person to use and it's not elaborate. A glove. An entire room, in some cases, with large stones set in significant corners or at points on walls.

Holding the stones in place and using the right spren is what it takes. My mother would be able to give you a more detailed explanation, but it's not my area of expertise.

[ Amos listens intently, fascinated. ]

And nothing is connecting them to anything, the energy source is in each of the gems?

[ Like... magic LEDs? ]

Each gem contains its' own energy source, and in some case, interactive effects.

Take a ruby. Prepare a stone in a specific manner, split it in half, and affix both halves to the top of two different pens. Move one pen, the other one shifts, drawing across the page. The result is the communication system we rely on, rather than this network of yours.

Or garnets. They may influence liquid- shape and cut a garnet appropriately, manufacture it according to various specifics, and give it to an archer to affix to their glove. The garnet will draw moisture from the air towards itself, and away from the bowstring, allowing your force to continue to shoot during the rains. Similarly, smokestone may be placed in a chimney, to ensure the clean drawing of smoke from a fire- if you can't afford a larger fabrial that would eliminate the need for a fire by simply producing heat.

[Even these designs are all simple ones, but it's a technology that's still being rediscovered.]

[ That's - amazing. Sure, there are ways nowadays to control the weather on some degree, and advanced filtering systems. But nothing like, what. Magic, set in stones? ]

And you can do that? Prepare these stones like this?

[ Amos's eyes are fixed on the woman, very intent. ]

Can you make, I don't know, some small explosives, maybe?

No. I'm not an artefabrian. I know about it because it's my mother's passion.

[She answers, meeting his eyes, measured.]

But if you need an explosion, I can arrange one.

Why?

Doors. We need to get through to Ops, and to Engineering. It can give us answers as to why we're here. And every time we try to get anything done, everyone ends up feeling all weird and like they need a nap. An explosion - a controlled one, a precise one just exactly where we need it to be to pop a door open might do the trick.

[ He shrugs. ]

At least, it's worth a shot.

I don't have enough stormlight to take down a door, no.

[She says, letting a breath out.]

If it had conventional hinges, perhaps, but not as they are here. Not sliding down with a full connection from edge to edge.

It could be worth trying to shortcut a door panel. Maybe we could force one open if we disabled the electronics. I've managed to get airlocks and hatches open by short-cutting them, but not the other doors.

[ He pauses, looking up, thinking for a moment. ]

How big can you go?

It doesn't work the way you're thinking.

[She amends, shaking her head.]

I don't cause the explosion. I soulcast the materials, and those cause it. Soulcasting is taking a substance, and using stormlight to transform- right now I could take a glass of water, and turn the contents into a rock the size of my fist. Or, getting through a panel earlier, I turned key connecting pieces of the metal itself into blood. Oil and fire are both possible.

What did that do? Turning the metal into blood, I mean?

[ She doesn't know what electricity is, and yet here she is, turning metal to blood. It's a miracle the station hasn't been vented yet. ]

I did the edges of the pieces I wanted to remove. It weakened the panel enough that I could take it down by force, and get into the wall, and access to the tubing there.

[More wires, though she hasn't put that together, absent information about insulation.]

But it took everything I had to do a space two hands across, and that was working with some of the natural features and ridges of the wall panels. It also did activate the station's defence mechanism.

The station's defense mechanism?

[ What does that one even mean? He hadn't heard a single alarm being triggered since arriving here. He'd opened panels and hatches - which required more effort than it would have had on the Roci, but still.

So, a defense mechanism. Did she actually pull out something harmful? ]

If you rip into the walls with intent to do damage, you begin to feel faint.

I initially attributed it to the voices we were hearing- you can speak to a rash of people who would hear someone calling for help, chase the sound of their screams, then tear into a wall to rescue them and begin to feel suddenly weak. The two things followed so quickly one after the other that we didn't initially differentiate them.

I returned to an open panel a few days after it happened to me, reached in, and began tearing. I didn't get the chance to do any harm before Frank Castiglione had to keep me from cracking my skull open on the deck.

[And to her credit, she at least sounds rueful.]

I hadn't heard about explosive decompression yet.

Maybe, don't have the intent to do damage?

[ Doing damage isn't what he wants to do. He wants to bypass and cheat the system, sure, but without permanently damaging anything - it wouldn't help in the long-run, which he's starting to feel they are definitely in for.

He huffs a noise of annoyance at her words. ]

You can't just go around trying to break shit down. Everything is connected to each other, on a place like this. You could tear into a panel and start a cascade.

[ At least, she does sound like she realizes the mistake. ]

Doesn't matter now anyway. What you can do, it could be useful, just as long as we use your skills wisely.

[ Not exactly his strong suit, but he can try. ]

I do agree with you, but I'm also glad we know the station can do this to us.

[Slightly overhasty experimentation aside, she'd definitely learned something.]

It's a useful data point, plotting out the shape of the influence this place has.

[Perhaps it's just because she's suspicious of space travel in general, but Jasnah is not predisposed to trust anything.]
