God damn right, you should be scared of me
Who is in control?
Things have been difficult this past month, there's no other way to spin it. Between the horrible illnesses that had rampaged through the station effecting them all in different ways and all the people who disappeared over the weeks, things had been hard to process and deal with. Losing all the people from her past was proving especially trying, resulting in Rogue steadfastly trying not to think about any of it. Some days that was easier than others.
Overall, though, things were looking up - as much as they could in this place, anyway. People were recovering from the illness, things had returned to their strange version of normal, and she was starting to feel like some semblance of okay again.
She really should have known better.

[ The words rush out as she sees the expression on his face. It's not just her, whatever's going on is hurting him. She tries every internal trick Charles had ever suggested, cycling through each mental technical and shielding exercise she'd learned over the years, but the seconds pass and nothing happens. ]
I don't know what's happening-- [ Taking a few steps closer, she reaches out a gloved hand, wanting to help him but not knowing how. But with each of those steps, the strength of the absorption increases, pulling on more of his energy. ]

Moving closer makes it worse, so she frantically steps back, nearly stumbling over her own feet trying to put distance between them. ] I'm not touching you, this shouldn't be happening. I'm sor--
[ And then she's gone. With no fanfare or warning, one second there and then. Not.
She really is sorry, Miller. You didn't deserve this. ]

he comes to the observation deck to think, occasionally, when he's exhausted all other leads. and boy, are they exhausted. so is he. he hears the fall before he can turn around from the view of the planet below to catch it. but then he's whirling around and going to her, healed from whatever had happened before and easily ditching self-preservation to get close even when he realizes who it is. ]
Rogue? I've been lookin' all over for you.

You looked for me?
[ There's a bit of rasp in those smooth southern vowels, and-- Are her teeth chattering? She can't tell anymore, she can hardly remember what it's like to be warm. Hugging her left arm to her body, she can't say whether it's numb from the fall or the cold. ]

I'm a detective, remember?
[ there's a sort-of smile then, and he removes his jacket to place over her shoulders. ]
Come on, kid. Let's get you to medbay.

That's a good idea. I think I'm dehydrated. How long was I...?

[ miller rubs at his eyes and leads the way to the elevators. ]

It's all kind of fuzzy. I kept feeling sick while I was-- [ A pause ] I was floating somewhere.

There was a light under me, far away. Metal everywhere. It felt like... a tunnel, but I couldn't move to reach the sides. And it was so cold.
