you gotta fight for your right to party

» WHO? all ya'll!
» WHEN? sometime after the 15th
» WHERE? everywhere
» WHAT? house party!
» WARNINGS? i'd say blanket warning for language, maybe light violence, anything else, i'll update.

[ jim kirk wasn't the captain of this station. he wasn't even a ranking officer but he knows enough about people to know that, if you put them through the wringer over and over again, they're going to break without some sort of downtime. and jim's not about to be on a station where everyone's breaking down. no, he hadn't come back from death to die again.

so, he goes back to his roots. he goes back to the days where he'd spent all of his time in bars, hitting on pretty girls and boys, and getting into fights. maybe possibly they can cross out fights tonight but the rest of the stuff? nah, jim wants it all.

he trawls his way through the station to see what they have, first of all. and then he gets to work. the replicators don't serve great booze but it's booze nonetheless and he gets those flowing, filling bottles and glasses and sliding them out for anyone to have. he fiddles with the lights in the bar to make it more appropriate and even asks this new ai on board for some music. if that doesn't work, everyone's just going to be treat to him singing.

then, he pulls out chairs and benches from the rooms and lines the halls. he wants everyone to be together, to talk to each other and the halls seem like the most well traveled place. he draws signs that lead people to the pool where he's tossed a bunch of small things in to take the place of beach balls and toys. he even suggests chicken fights because who can resist a good chicken fight?

is it sacrilegious to see up makeshift twister in the chapel? oh well because that's where it is. dancing, he decides, is best for observation deck so he asks for a little more music filtered in there because who wouldn't want to dance with that beautiful backdrop?

on the command deck, jim rigs up some lights, making it more apt for a party and sets up a few tables with cards and other random things to signify money. if people want to do some gambling, lose their shirts, jim's not going to stop you. he prefers strip poker, really, but there are youngsters around so behave. somewhat. ringing the room, he finds spots to set up arm wrestling tables because who doesn't want to show off their strength? not jim, he knows so many people would beat him but maybe other people want to grab the title of 'strongest on the station.' jim will make you a medal and everything.

he wants to do something with the library but he doesn't want to wreck it. so, poetry readings. there's no mic but he does set up a chair to act as a stage and even pushes various other chairs around it to act as an audience. don't get too wild in here. the nonexistent librarian won't like it.

lastly, he finds himself in the hangar. there are shuttles in there that he doesn't want to break but it's a big space so fuck it, he goes for a fight club type atmosphere. people need to get the tension out somehow and while fucking likes bunnies would be ideal, asking for an orgy tonight would be too much. so, he draws chalk outlines of various rings for various different matches. he makes rules that say this isn't till the death, be fair, no hitting below the belt and, if jim were to get into the ring, you weren't allowed to mess up his hair.

he was the party organizer, he got to make the rules!

once everything seemed to be set up, he just started knocking on doors at random to get people out of their rooms and out into the open. this station was stupid but he wasn't going to let things fall apart without a fight. ]

[ with me. he's glad the splash of the water as he treads it masks the loud pound of his heart as he seeks out their first dunkee. ]

I feel like that's a trap question.

Maybe I'm looking for an excuse to dunk you too, Frank.

[The idea of being able to actually get him beneath the water is laughable. She's strong, but he's a tank. The only way she's dunking him is if he lets her do it.

But at least they're in close enough to...some poor victim. Karen starts making a swipe in their direction, up until she realizes they're not exactly looking for some hands on play. She ends laughing and apologizing, trying to look innocent when she knows they appear to be anything but.

I'm sure you'll find one.

[ aka he'll let her and she'll find a reason he deserves it, so he's not that worried about it. he's already laughing and grimacing as water splashes into his face, shifting around the other pair in the water to try and keep karen from losing her perch. ]

[She slips a little and lets out a squeal of laughter, legs pressing tight against his head to help keep her balance. This is absolutely the dumbest thing they've ever done together, which is saying a lot since they've also had a deep and meaningful talk about love in the middle of a shitty diner. But it's nice, to not have any immediate worries or dangers to focus on. It's just fun, something she's been lacking for a long time now.

Which of course means she's extra vicious when another pair steps up to fight them and Karen lunges forward like she's Daredevil out after someone that needs to be taken care of. Your girl's a scrapper, Frank.

Karen. We're trying to knock 'em in the water, not kill 'em. [ he hisses, squeezing her hip to try and get her to lighten up a bit, but he sounds bemused. ]
subplot: (61)

[personal profile] subplot 2018-09-16 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
[She's perfectly chill all the time!! Including right now, where she takes his "subtle" hint and lightens up but doesn't stop trying to wrestle the other person into the water. It's a very handsy game, one that ends with Karen knocking her opponent into the water, and her looking oh so smug and proud of herself for it.]

I'm not trying to kill anyone. I just like winning.

Well, in that case: congratulations.

[ it's dry as he watches their opponent topple over into the water. before karen can react he's falling backwards, hoping to catch her unawares and plunge her into the water too. ]
subplot: (28)

[personal profile] subplot 2018-09-16 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
[He does a good job of catching her unaware. He topples her back into the water and she reacts with a shout of surprise that turns to a gurgle as she goes under. Her lungs fill with water thanks to her open mouth, and as she moves her gangly limbs in order to surface she turns a glare in his direction the second she's able to breathe.]

Asshole. [She laughs as she skims her hand across the top of the water, splashing him.]
oorah: (☠︎025)

[personal profile] oorah 2018-09-16 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
[ he comes up next to her, thwapping her back so she doesn't choke. then he laughs when she splashes him, shaking like a dog. ]

Yep.
subplot: (86)

[personal profile] subplot 2018-09-16 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Hearing that laughter and seeing how carefree he seems right now makes her pause in the middle of retaliation. He' seems genuinely happy right now. Instead of splashing him back right away, she moves to swim away on her back, kicking her legs hard enough that water goes flying toward him.]
oorah: (☠︎310)

[personal profile] oorah 2018-09-16 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ ugh. he rubs water out of his eyes before chasing after her and dipping one broad arm into the water so he can splash the whole of her from head to toe. ]
subplot: (70)

[personal profile] subplot 2018-09-16 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
Jesus Christ, Frank!

[Karen rubs at her face and wipes at her eyes, sputtering a little as she tries to recover from his epic splash. She's not down for long though, and slinks through the water in an attempt to rise up out of it and tackle him down until he's dunked under.]
oorah: (☠︎057)

[personal profile] oorah 2018-09-16 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
[ it's his turn to inhale pool water, holding up a hand dramatically as he trapped underwater for a few seconds. but then he just stands up so he can cough. they made it to the shallow end and neither of them noticed. ]

Are we even now?

subplot: (78)

[personal profile] subplot 2018-09-18 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
[They're the idiots looking like they're drowning in the shallow end. What winners. karen looks around and tries to play it cool after that.]

Yeah. For now.

[All the rambunctiousness is out of her for the moment, and she decides that maybe having a quiet, gentle moment in the pool is better than trying to literally drown one another or other people. She wades past him, taking hold of his hand beneath the water.]

Does it feel strange to you to be doing nothing like this?
oorah: (☠︎043)

[personal profile] oorah 2018-09-18 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
[ he catches her hand and holds on tight, milling over the question with visible conflict. ]

Yeah, of course. But I figure we won't get much of a break, right? May as well take advantage.
