@all (from @r.asuka)

[ On the morning of the 15th, there is a network-wide ping issued approximately twenty-three minutes after the roster is released to the public. ]

Hello.

As I'm certain you all are aware, a roster has been sent to each of our devices. Given that this is yet another item on a growing list to be examined by us all, I believe it's important for each of us to come together to discuss any possible concerns or ideas that may require teamwork.

@PALPATINE and I earlier discussed the possibility of a non-compulsory meeting to sort through these issues. We agreed it would be in our best interests.

If you're inclined, please come to the Mess Hall at 19:00 in three day's time.

[ ooc: so! this will be broken down into sub-headings as discussed on the ooc plot post and utilized as a kind of "catch-all." if you think anything needs to be added at any time, please feel free to contact me through pm, at [plurk.com profile] rasasvada, or on disco at morning star#3715. or, you know, add it yourself! i don't mind.

noticeably, this is self-directed! if you character wants to speak or make a point to everyone, feel free to do so. no one is policing how this goes or making introductory comments or whatever else. open floor, y'all. ]

[Alright, so here goes nothing.]

I'd like to start a group focused on repairing and unlocking the station. My background is in mechanics and engineering, and I have a little programming knowledge. I used to work on Jaegers back home—massive robots, and I was in charge of a project to repair and upgrade one that was nearly destroyed.

[So, that's what she's good at, and those are her credentials.]

I don't have any experience working on a station like this, though. Space travel isn't common where I'm from. I think a lot of my skills will translate, but there's plenty of knowledge I'm missing, too.

[Erika raises her hand.]

Programming, networks, and so on. I'll do my best to branch out.

[She's kind of quiet, and keeping to a word budget.]

[Mako doesn't mind that. She's not one for talking just to talk, either.]

I think teaching each other will be important, too. If there's anything you'd like to learn, I can show you.

[She's not a great teacher, but...something > nothing and so on. Hmm.

Mako is a bit hard to look in the eye, for some reason.]

I don't - obviously I can't work heavy, but anything that could be important, I'll study. And teach. The other hackers around here probably make better teachers, though.

Why do you say that?

[personal profile] bu773rfly 2018-05-27 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not...very patient, or good at explaining how I do certain things. Maybe with someone who already understands the framework, but...

[ Amos steps forward, looking as intimidating as he knows how to be, shotgun in hands, and gives Mako a nod, an half smile on his lips. ]

I've got the experience. Me and Naomi - [ He points at her with a thumb. ] - we've been working on places like this one for years. We're engineers too.

[ He's not exactly one to offer his help so openly usually, he just does things, but he knows he has to, if he's ever going to make it home. He can't just pretend they're not all in this together. ]

Count me in.

[personal profile] setpoint 2018-05-22 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Mako isn't entirely sure what his plan is until he smiles at her, and she realizes he's trying to play back up. She thinks, anyway. The shotgun is a bit much, and she has no idea where he got it, but the thought of it is appreciated, and she smiles back.]

Thank you, Amos. I didn't realize that you're an engineer.
tumang: (easycompany-amos-88)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-22 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
[ Tsk, the shotgun is barely enough for some of the soldiers in this room, he's pretty sure.

He nods. ]

I'm more of a mechanic, really, but I'm pretty good at getting engines in working order. Naomi's the comms and tech wizard.

[ Basically, he doesn't have a PhD, okay, they didn't really give those out on Earth anymore without sitting on a waitlist for your whole life. Amos had other things to do, but he learned by doing. ]

Did you say massive robots?
setpoint: (pr5314)

[personal profile] setpoint 2018-05-24 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
[Mako could happily spend an entire day getting an engine back in shape, so that doesn't diminish her opinion at all.]

Yes. We call them jaegers. They're weapons controlled by two pilots, but their designs vary a lot.
tumang: (easycompany-amos-29)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-25 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
How massive are we talking?

[ Amos realizes here and now is not the time to have this conversation, probably, but he can't help himself. He is very curious and interested - this is what he is passionate about, after all. ]

How are they powered? And how are they piloted?
setpoint: (163)

[personal profile] setpoint 2018-05-26 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
The one I piloted was two hundred and sixty feet tall and almost two thousand tons. Some were much larger. The older models, like Gipsy, were nuclear powered, but the newer models are digital. The pilots are connected to each other and to the Jaeger through a neural link. We use drivesuits to control them—they pick up on the pilot's electrical impulses and muscle movements and relay them to the Jaeger. I was wearing mine when I got here, but... I'm not sure what happened to it.

[Did you want an infodump, Amos?]
tumang: (easycompany-amos-43)

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-29 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
[ YES HE DID.

He stares at Mako, this diminutive girl who apparently can pilot a robot that's bigger than some ships Amos has been on, fascinated. The robot responding to the pilot's electrical impulses is a thing of genius, and he wishes he could see it in person, play with the tech. ]

Can I ask - why?
setpoint: (163)

[personal profile] setpoint 2018-05-29 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
There was an alien race trying to colonize Earth. They had weapons too, just organic ones—massive monsters that we call kaiju. The first one managed a six day rampage along the California coast and destroyed Sacramento, Oakland and San Francisco before we could take it down with nuclear weapons. Doing it that way meant that massive areas were left uninhabitable from radiation, and kaiju blood is toxic, too. We needed a way to take them out at close range.

[personal profile] tumang 2018-05-30 11:18 am (UTC)(link)
[ Well, damn. ]

So, what you're saying is that you're a badass monster killer?
setpoint: (pr3808)

[personal profile] setpoint 2018-05-30 01:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[Mako blinks up at him for a second, then smiles a little, thrown off but clearly pleased at the compliment.]

I guess so. I'm not a pilot anymore, though.

Why not?

[ This is what Naomi's here to discuss -- the politics of their current situation aren't to her taste, but she's concerned about the damage to the station they've already witnessed. People tearing into walls, breaking the terminals apart. It doesn't seem to have broken anything so far, but it potentially could. Naomi doesn't want to be in charge of anything when there's no real authority, but a group could work. If everyone actually knew what they were doing.

Amos gestures to her so she stands up next to address everyone, with a polite nod of greeting to Mako. ]

We've got the experience. I grew up fixing ships and stations and my specialty is impossible repairs. Qualifications probably don't matter here, and I'm not looking to be the boss, but if anyone wants a crash course in space mechanics I should be able to manage that. Just to make sure everyone inclined knows exactly what they're poking at. I'm sure you're all capable but we're working with limited resources and need to be extremely careful. I'm guessing any spare parts this place has are behind a sealed door somewhere, and not everything can be improvised.

[ And then she's got a question just for Mako, actually. ]

What kind of massive robot, exactly?
