@all (from @r.asuka)

[ On the morning of the 15th, there is a network-wide ping issued approximately twenty-three minutes after the roster is released to the public. ]

Hello.

As I'm certain you all are aware, a roster has been sent to each of our devices. Given that this is yet another item on a growing list to be examined by us all, I believe it's important for each of us to come together to discuss any possible concerns or ideas that may require teamwork.

@PALPATINE and I earlier discussed the possibility of a non-compulsory meeting to sort through these issues. We agreed it would be in our best interests.

If you're inclined, please come to the Mess Hall at 19:00 in three day's time.

[ ooc: so! this will be broken down into sub-headings as discussed on the ooc plot post and utilized as a kind of "catch-all." if you think anything needs to be added at any time, please feel free to contact me through pm, at [plurk.com profile] rasasvada, or on disco at morning star#3715. or, you know, add it yourself! i don't mind.

noticeably, this is self-directed! if you character wants to speak or make a point to everyone, feel free to do so. no one is policing how this goes or making introductory comments or whatever else. open floor, y'all. ]

[Arid has been monitoring the meeting from the sidelines since it began. Though she had recognized its value as a means of gathering intel about the station’s other inhabitants, she does not have enough data on normative human governments to contribute anything to the discussion—and even if she did, it is doubtful the crew would be amenable to taking advice from an AI.

Still, when a small human mentions he has experience “working with droids,” it gets her attention, particularly when he suggests disseminating his knowledge to the ship’s other organics.

Arid does her best to keep her line of questioning as innocuous as she can. The human may not respond well if he knew she was evaluating him as a threat.]

What class of droid are you familiar with maintaining?

Oh. Hey.

[He can kinda guess why she might be interested in something like that, and on his end, it's nice to see a droid! He's met those white-haired androids, but they're pretty different from what he's used to.]

Um, I should say like... my skills are pretty basic compared to some people. But probably above most people here? Either way, mostly astromechs and protocol droids. I'm familiar with battle droids and assassin droids too, but more in the them trying to kill me way.

[It is reassuring to hear that his knowledge is only perfunctory. It at least implies that “working with droids” is not his primary function. That clarified, Arid’s interest turns to the droid types he listed. Not all of them are familiar to her. “Astromech” is easy enough to decipher as some manner of ship maintenance droid. “Battle droids” and “assassin droids” are likewise self-explanatory. There is one, however, that is vague enough to escape classification.]

What is the function of a protocol droid?

Protocol...?

[Which means a lot of different things. He's never asked for specifics, but it's all mostly assumed.]

Uh well, I know some protocol droids work as translators. I think AP-5 did analysis during the Clone Wars? Now he mostly helps with inventory and stuff like that.

we can end the interaction here if you'd like!

[It is a general term, then. Nonetheless, Arid is fairly certain that none of her allies fall under that category.]

Understood. I will keep your capabilities in mind.

[She will—just not in the way he likely expects.]

By the way, what type of droid are you?

[Is that weird to ask. He doesn't feel like it would be usually, but the situation's a little different.]

Just... wondering. If you don't want to answer, you don't have to?

[In truth, Arid is not a droid. Not that the human needs to know that. If he (and any he instructs) believe her to be bound to this single body, then so much the better.]

I was programmed primarily for combat alongside human operatives.

[It is not a lie. She is merely omitting a few important details—most notably that she typically requires a human pilot to function. The last thing she wants it to give any organic crewmembers ideas about how she should be used.]

Got it. I've never seen a battle droid like you before, but there's a lot here that's new to me.

[Honestly, she's not as out there as the super humanoid looking androids so.]

Not as much as other people, it seems, but still.
