Hello.

As I'm certain you all are aware, a roster has been sent to each of our devices. Given that this is yet another item on a growing list to be examined by us all, I believe it's important for each of us to come together to discuss any possible concerns or ideas that may require teamwork.

@PALPATINE and I earlier discussed the possibility of a non-compulsory meeting to sort through these issues. We agreed it would be in our best interests.

If you're inclined, please come to the Mess Hall at 19:00 in three day's time.

Sure.

( it's a lot now and it was a lot before. prax is getting some practice at keeping his head down and following those who have a better idea of what's going on than he does, but he's still glad to be going toward something he knows. plants. plants in space. that's his world and he's an expert. )

[mapsio]

I assume you have just arrived? I know that the meeting... it must have been a lot for a person who really has no idea what might be going on.

[She's going down the halls of the station, fiddling with her fingers.]

Is there anything you are confused about?

Yeah. Guess I woke up just in time.

( for the meeting, he means.

he follows easily, even if there's tension between his shoulder blades, even if his chest feels tight and he keeps thinking of mei. how alone she must be. ) Aside from the obvious of how we got here, why we're here, who or what brought us, and how we get back? Not really.

( but he's very confused about those things. )

What a time to wake up.

[Waking up just in time for that information bomb, it must be rough.

Haru wishes there was something she could do to ease the other person's mind. But she can't really imagine what he must be feeling like stuck on a space station and not knowing the whereabouts of his daughter.

She turns a corner and in a room that is directly next to the mess hall, there is the hydroponics room. It...looks worse for wear. The equipment they were all able to find was old and worn down. The only things growing at the moment were what seemed to be vegetable seeds. Though there seems to be an area marked off for an air filtering grid was well. There was a nice man that was willing to help her there.]

That is fair. Those are questions that I don't think any of us could answer right now. [She takes a breath.] I know it isn't very impressive right now, but this is what we had to start with. The set up is very basic, something I remembered seeing in a book at home.

( short of finding mei, there really isn't much that will ease his mind. being elbow deep in soil or taking care of some plants would help, but this station seems largely devoid of flora. for someone who grew up on the station that was the breadbasket of the belt, responsible for a soy farm, that's disturbing in and of itself.

the equipment is worn, there's not much in terms of air filtration going on, but it's something. it's a start. )

It's better than nothing. ( prax says after a moment, taking a step closer to peer at this or that thing. )

[She knows really only of gardening on a rooftop at home. So even having the chance to try out hydroponics is sort of thrilling for her. Though to have someone like Prax in front of her who probably was a plethora of knowledge... she wonders how it wll measure up.]

I'm hoping to do some more work on it myself before I open this garden for the residents of the ship to tend to and visit. I would be selfish to keep this all to myself.

[contorta]

( it isn't the same as the soy farm prax used to be responsible for, that's certain, but it's far better than nothing at all. he means that. she's done good work here. )

I would like to work on it as well.

( if she doesn't mind. )

I think some of the corridors are meant to carry plants as well. ( there's even bits of dirt left. he wonders what happened to the plants that must've been there before. )

I wouldn't mind if you wanted to help this project along. Two heads are certainly better than one. Even I have to admit that I don't have all of the knowledge required for this. This is even one big learning experience for me.

[Haru is warm and welcoming, she won't turn someone away.]

It truly makes me wonder what happened on this station. It seemed to be flourishing.

[contorta]

( he doesn't want to take over her project. it's just that this is what he knows. this is what he used to do. which is, in part, why he's not only talking about this station but about ganymede as well when he says - )

It could have been a cascade. These systems, they're usually so interconnected that if one thing goes wrong and then another, it cascades through the entire system. Not enough safeguards.

[mapsio]

I want to know what to do to prevent something like that from happening. But I just don't feel like we know enough about where we are yet to even start doing anything like having enough safeguards to prevent against such tragedy.

[She shuffles her feet just a little.]

[contorta]

It takes a lot to prevent that kind of thing from happening. I don't know if we even can.

( even if they knew everything about this station — do they have the resources? )

[mapsio]

So essentially, we're not ever going to be safe here.

[She's frowning. Not liking that premise or future.]

[contorta]

We might manage reasonable levels of safety.

( sorry. if what happened to ganymede station taught him one thing, it's that safety doesn't really exist. )

[mapsio]

You don't sound so sure.

[contorta]

( he looks at her, a little helplessly. she's so young, he shouldn't be putting this on her —but she's old enough to deserve to know, too, isn't she?

he doesn't know anymore. )

The station I used to live on, Ganymede. I always thought it was safe, but it got destroyed. Something happened, a cascade started, now it's uninhabitable. Anyone who was left on it died. All the plants, all the people, everything.

[mapsio]

[She frowns, obviously trying to show some compassion for the man. He lost his home, his daughter. Everything. He lost everything.

She feels bad for him.]

So that's why you said that. I...I understand now. I'm sorry to hear that.

[contorta]

( his daughter might still be alive. she might be something worse than dead, too. he just doesn't know. )

Yeah.

( a beat. he's not great company right now. ) Thank you.

[mapsio]

Of course.

[She gets a good look at him, he...looks so tired.]

Prax-san. I would like to meet with you again about the garden. But for now...? I think you should go get some rest.

[contorta]

( prax lifts a hand to rub at his face. halfway to it, he changes his mind and rubs the back of his neck instead. )

Ah, well. Maybe I should.

[mapsio]

Do you have a place to stay? Do you need somewhere to lay your head for a little while?

[contorta]

I have a place.

( alex had seen to that. she's being very kind to him, but he's not in a great place to appreciate it at this moment. )
