open; SPACE GARDENING
» WHO? Haru and YOU!
» WHEN? Before the current station ruckus; a day or two before.
» WHERE? Hydroponics Garden
» WHAT? We're all gonna learn how to assemble and work a space garden, hopefully.
» WARNINGS? Intense Gardening.
[It is at least a week or two since Haru made the first announcement about finding the materials to make a hydroponics garden, and most of the time after that announcement was spent working out the kinks and working with other people in improving the state of the garden.
Today though? Haru thinks she is ready to make the garden available to other people, a space where others can come when they feel stressed out... or a space where they can come and grow anything they desire.
She sends out a text @EVERYONE:]
Hello everyone, This is Haru.
The hydroponics garden is ready and available to use. If anyone would like to drop by I will be here for quite some time if anyone has any questions. It is located right across from the Mess Hall.
[If anyone DOES decide to drop by? Haru will be there tending plants and free to answer any questions or give a simple run down of how the garden works.]

Climate control systems. Automatable? Maybe. But with someone already dedicating themselves to upkeep, it'd be redundant - what would there be for Haru to then do with her time? And the work is too valuable not to check in on anyways. Maybe some form of assistance to the gardener, a tracking system...
Her inner Wormmon is already striking up conversation. Setting an example? Oh, please. Then again, Erika doesn't want to get up and turn to face specifically because she doesn't want to guess at what Haru thinks of the long, awkward silence. Maybe inner Wormmon knows things she doesn't let on.]
...What parts of the process are most difficult?

[Haru has to think about this one. What is hard about this? Everything, really. Everything was hard to grasp in this kind of situation. Though mostly it was keeping a balance that was hard. A harmonious balance between all of your systems.]
There are several systems at use here and keeping all of them in balance is what I am finding to be the toughest. If one system goes awry, then it will without question throw everything else off.

Do you have any kind of sensors running? Or do you have to manually watch for warning signs?
no subject
[Resources and knowledge are the problem there.]

[And that's up to chance, goes unsaid.]
In the meantime, what about some kind of maintenance tracker? If we had more paper it wouldn't be anything special, but since we don't, I can make an app for it. Something that shows the time since last check of each piece of equipment, and a log of repairs and observations. Maybe an automatic alert that sends a text when something's due for a check.
[Any awkwardness is long gone now, swept away by focus on the details of a project.]

[But the next thing interests her. Haru gets swept up into the thought of having an app that would remind her, and other people to come check the systems in the gardens and keep a log on the repairs.]
Could the log be a shared log?

[Erika finally gets up and turns herself around to face Haru, fiddling intently with one of her sleeves but otherwise still, and radiating a quiet focus.]
I'd need a lot of information from you to get the design down, but the back end is trivial. It wouldn't need to do anything the comms network isn't already capable of.

[Though she wonders if there was anything that she could do in return. She wouldn't want to make this person make such a helpful app for nothing.
So Haru offers.]
Is there anything I can do for you in return if you were to make this?
no subject
Mmh. Not...at the moment. [The fussing at her sleeve slows, and the stare fixed on Haru takes on a bit less stiffness and a bit more searching interest.] I'd take a favor to call in later, though. Once mutual survival isn't the main concern.

[Haru understands that you can't go asking someone to do for you if you are not willing to do in return. It isn't morally right.]
I won't rush you to make this or anything, but the idea of it is really wonderful. It would be incredibly helpful in the long run.
no subject
[Silent assent, or acceptance. What can she add to that? If she says it's helpful, then it's helpful.]
There's more time than there are things to work on, so it shouldn't take too long anyways. [Shrug. An away-and-back flicker of her eyes.] I'll send you a request for specs.
[And then she literally just turns right then like she's going to walk out and away. And will do just that unless something else is said.]
no subject
[...and, she doesn't stop her.
She will just wait for that request in the coming days and get back to her tending of the day.]
