( 0 0 1 » ENSEMBLE ) welcome to the inaugural log
» WHO? everyone
» WHEN? may 1 onward
» WHERE? all over the station
» WHAT? introductory log feat. waking up, exploration, meeting over food and noises in the walls
» WARNINGS? potential for body horror, psychological horror, hallucinations, physical injury

Were you asleep or were you unconscious? It doesn't matter: when you come to, there's an odd taste in your mouth and there's a low-level mechanical hum in the air. Your head hurts and you feel nauseous. You aren't anywhere you know: everything around you is metal, from the floor you lie on all the way to the ceiling. You are dressed in a jumpsuit you definitely weren't wearing before.
"We tried to save the world. I think— I think we did the opposite."
The message repeats on a loop. If you look for its source, you find a comms device on the floor next to you. The logo on its wallpaper says REVERIE TERMINAL. Upon closer inspection, you find the same logo on your jumpsuit.
Welcome to your new home.

You've woken up — but where have you woken up? It may be time to explore your new home. Rifling through a crew quarter will make the room's terminal lock to the comms device you're carrying; the room becomes yours. That includes everything in it, from the additional jumpsuit to the two extra sets of underwear. In some quarters, you may find remnants of whoever was here before you: a book on the nightstand, a coffee mug still on the table, a lonely sock on the floor.
A look around the shared areas will reveal the bar, some of its bottles already open, the mess hall, observation deck and the gym area with its dirty pool. An even closer look around these areas might reveal basic first aid kits as well as basic tool kits and fire extinguishers. The kits are located near the fire extinguishers in compartments in the wall that are not immediately visible. Hopefully, nothing's on fire and no one needs first aid... but that tool kit might come in handy.
Every now and then, as you explore, you might find yourself standing before a door that is locked. Try as you might, you will not be able to get it open.
( OOC: What items characters find of those who were there before them is up to players, but please limit it to a single item that is mundane and somewhat useless in nature. )

Sooner or later, all characters will have to make their way to the mess hall if they want to eat. In the mess hall, here are a number of replicator-like devices that sometimes work and sometimes don't— but after a recent malfunction that some characters may have noticed, they seem to work just fine... or at least as well as ever: nothing is particularly palatable, but at least it's nourishment, right?
So why not sit down at a table, whether it's already occupied or not, and have a meal. Maybe use it as an opportunity to introduce yourself, or just to complain about what passes for coffee around here.
And if coffee isn't your preferred beverage, well. There's always the bar.

For some, it's been over a week on the station. For others, merely a day or two. For all, things are starting to change: maybe you were asleep or maybe you weren't, but surely the scream that reverberates through the station will startle you. Was it human? Whatever it was, it seems to be coming from the walls of the station. Banging, clanging, then more screams.
Are you going to chase the sounds? Hide away from them? Try to investigate?
If you follow the sound of screams through the station's corridors and halls, you might feel someone - or was it something? - grab you from behind and pull hard. But when you turn around or turn your head if you've fallen, there's nothing and no one there. If you investigate and perhaps put your ear to a wall to see if the noises really come from there, or bang on the wall, you might hear something other than screams and clanging. Strain your ears and you might hear nothing at all — or you might be able to make out a soft "help me". It's barely above a whisper. Did it sound familiar? If you try to take apart the wall, two things will happen: you'll feel uncharacteristically weak and lethargic all of the sudden, and you'll find nothing at all but wiring and more metal.
Whatever you do, you'll find that the noises stop after a while, with no discernible source other than "the walls". And then hours later, they'll start again. Stop again. Start again a day later— and then stop for good.

Hello Reverie Terminal Operators! Welcome to our inaugural event. We hope you'll enjoy it!
To help exploration and interaction with the station, we have put together ten (10) 'actions' that you can request. These actions range from very minor, such as receiving a small piece of information about the station, to major, which may be a more vital piece of information or something far less pleasant, and are completely opt-in. These actions can help get your character involved in the plot, jump into the plot and its mysteries, and have more of a personal prompt to jump off of if you so wish.
Please note if you would avoid particular kinds of consequences (for example, if you'd rather your character not be injured), and we'll try to accommodate that, but please be aware that heavy themes are in play and the actions may feature body horror, injury and hallucinations.
If you'd like to receive an action, please reply to this comment with the following:
In the future, actions such as these may be "bought" with bonus AC.

Please use content warning in your top-levels wherever necessary.

wall noise.
Which is a person. With really odd hair. Pot calling the kettle black and all that, but Noctis grimaces awkwardly as he tries to rearrange his own limbs back into their rightful place. A hand reaches out to help the guy as he musters up an apology- ]
Sorry... Were you the one screaming just now?
[ He could have sworn it sounded like a girl's scream, but maybe that's just how this guy screams. No judgment. But the guy doesn't look like he's under any kind of danger. Just partially roughed up from having been run into. Maybe the screaming was his knee-jerk reaction to the food they've been forced to eat. If that's the case, he can't exactly blame the guy. His own reaction wasn't all that different. Just a smidge quieter. ]
no subject
As it is, he stumbles back a pace or two, looking a little dazed as he looks to see what — no, who he'd just collided with.
Funny enough, Akira's thinking to himself how ridiculous this guy's hair is at around the same time. (To be honest, though, they both have stupid hair.)
It seems as though neither of them are worse for wear, though. He accepts the hand, mumbling a thank-you as he rocks back onto his feet, shaking his head as if that could dislodge the jarring feeling of the impact.
He looks up to the guy with a sharp look at the question.] You seriously think that could'a been me? [Akira's still sixteen years old and kinda a shitty kid, so of course he'd be a little miffed at that. Besides, he's seen enough fucked-up shit in the last few weeks that there'd have to be something truly twisted on board this station to make him make a peep at all.
He stands up to his full height, squaring his shoulders.] But it is someone, and we gotta find 'em. [He lifts his chin a little bit, locking Noctis into a challenging glare.] You with me?
no subject
Long, spindly fingers then stroke over his back for a moment, making a grasping motion as if to jerk his shirt, and Noctis whips around fast to see where it originated from only to find empty air. No victim in the hallway, no one trying to get his attention.
But he knows what he felt. ]
That wasn't you, was it? Not the scream, I know, but the... tugging...
[ He'd been pointedly facing the guy the entire time. Unless he has extra long limbs sprouting out of somewhere that Noctis doesn't want to think about, that would have been physically impossible. Maybe it was a breeze? Yeah, he knows they're in space, but he's grasping desperately at explanations here, anything to avoid the obvious ones: that he's either hallucinating, being pranked on, or someone invisible is aboard the ship.
All terrible possibilities, but he needs to get a grip on himself first. ]
I think someone's messing with us. You don't have any enemies on board, do you?
[ Because Noctis sure has a lot. He's just not sure if they're tailing him outside of the planet yet. ]
no subject
Akira blinks slowly at the question, at first not having any fucking idea what the dude is talking about.
And then his own mishap in the hallway rushes back to him: feeling like he'd been grabbed onto from behind for a full second before it'd released him to go crashing into the ground. Recognition clicks into place and he straightens up a little bit.] What - you mean it happened to you too? Something... grabbin' at you?
[Nope, sadly he's not the answer to this one. He's another victim of whatever the fuck that is.]
Just when I started runnin' this way, something grabbed me from behind and tripped me up, but I didn't see anything when I looked back in that direction.
[Enemies...? Nah, not really. The only person on this station he knows is Ryo, and he basically trusts the guy with his life (not that he has much choice in the matter, but even if he did). He looks considerate for a moment before shaking his head.] Nah, can't say I do.
[One more moment's thought before he puts both hands to the sides of his face, looking shocked.]
What if it's ghosts?!
[It makes perfect sense! What else would be able to pull you off your feet and be invisible the whole time?!]
no subject
But how are they even going to fight a ghost? No weapons, no armiger, no magic. ]
Good news is that if it is a ghost, it probably can't hurt us. Just spook us.
[ That's his theory anyway. It's not like they have a physical figure, and if they were out to kill them, they would have done it already. So maybe the ghosts are just trying to get their attention. Yes, logical thinking. His friends would be proud. ]
I... got a weird call on my watch-phone earlier. Some lady told me there was a traitor here...
[ He hadn't told anyone else that yet, but he doubts this guy is the traitor. If he is, he's doing a damn good job of acting like he isn't smart enough to carry around an elaborate betrayal plan.
Between that call and the scream, Noctis knows they're connected. If only he had recorded or saved that message from earlier. He's not even sure if he actually did see it, considering how groggy he felt after waking up in this place. ]
no subject
From Akira's perspective, at least. Demons are real back home for him, sure, but he hadn't seen any ghosts.
He scrutinizes Noctis with a sharp gaze, his mouth pressing into a thin line before he asks, frank,] Have you seen, like, any horror movie ever? Scarin' us is going to be the least of our worries if we're really dealing with ghosts.
[Even if they don't have a physical form, they can make you go mad, and then you end up doing all that fucked-up shit that the ghosts might've done if they did. Then they'd have to be wary for ghosts and also one another.]
What?! Really?
[He lifts his own communicator a bit, tapping the screen and scrolling lightning-fast through a few options. Nothing in his. Must've been something that only this guy had gotten then. But why? He guesses it doesn't matter, but this seems like something a little too specific to make up. He looks back up to Noctis.]
As in, a traitor here, right now? Or was this from... "before"? You know, before all of us woke up?
[That was the consensus, right? That a bunch of other people had been on this place before they'd all woken up?]
no subject
[ Which this can't possibly be, but that also sounds like something the protagonists of those movies would think. Which means, there is probably a fake ghost running amuck, and they're some level of screwed at the moment.
But back to the more important bit. ]
It was after I woke up. It just came from nowhere on this thing-
[ He points to his watch-phone, still trying to see if there is any kind of record left on it. ]
Doubt it was meant for me, but I still got it. Some red-headed lady...
[ She had a name. One he's trying to grasp at desperately but can't seem to remember. This is why no one is allowed to tell him important news first thing in the morning. He can barely remember his own name after waking, letting alone crucial information that might have to do with whether or not they'll make it off this ship alive. ]
You really think the traitor stuff was an old transmission?
[ Obviously, the smart thing to do would be to look for the lady, but Noctis is not about to knock on every space closet so he can inspect the women. That seems like the quickest way to earn a slap to the fact. Maybe he can get good ol' Prompto to do it. Or this guy. ]
no subject
[That's kinda weird, dude. You seen anyone about that?
Akira's gaze locks onto the communicator at his wrist, and he nods. He remembers it playing a message when he woke up, too, but it didn't say anything about a traitor. Just that... they'd tried to save the world and fucked it up? (Oi, join the club, buddy.) But he guesses it sorta made sense that people might be getting different messages. From what he's heard, no one could find the person or people who left them anyway. Maybe they were from a long time ago. Maybe they were from a few hours ago, and all those people were in the parts of the station they couldn't get to yet. Who fuckin' knows.]
Don't think I've seen any of those runnin' around. Not that I can recall. [Red-headed ladies, at least. He'll keep an eye out, though.] I mean, it's possible. But we can't know for sure. [He crosses his arms, one hand lifted to his chin.] If it's somethin' serious like that, maybe we should be safe and assume it's true? Just... keep an eye out or somethin'. Don't know what a traitor might be tryin' to do, though...
[Shove them out an airlock? He doesn't know. That's about the worst thing he can think of right now - besides being force-fed too much of that shitty food.]
