( 0 0 1 » ENSEMBLE ) welcome to the inaugural log
» WHO? everyone
» WHEN? may 1 onward
» WHERE? all over the station
» WHAT? introductory log feat. waking up, exploration, meeting over food and noises in the walls
» WARNINGS? potential for body horror, psychological horror, hallucinations, physical injury

Were you asleep or were you unconscious? It doesn't matter: when you come to, there's an odd taste in your mouth and there's a low-level mechanical hum in the air. Your head hurts and you feel nauseous. You aren't anywhere you know: everything around you is metal, from the floor you lie on all the way to the ceiling. You are dressed in a jumpsuit you definitely weren't wearing before.
"We tried to save the world. I think— I think we did the opposite."
The message repeats on a loop. If you look for its source, you find a comms device on the floor next to you. The logo on its wallpaper says REVERIE TERMINAL. Upon closer inspection, you find the same logo on your jumpsuit.
Welcome to your new home.

You've woken up — but where have you woken up? It may be time to explore your new home. Rifling through a crew quarter will make the room's terminal lock to the comms device you're carrying; the room becomes yours. That includes everything in it, from the additional jumpsuit to the two extra sets of underwear. In some quarters, you may find remnants of whoever was here before you: a book on the nightstand, a coffee mug still on the table, a lonely sock on the floor.
A look around the shared areas will reveal the bar, some of its bottles already open, the mess hall, observation deck and the gym area with its dirty pool. An even closer look around these areas might reveal basic first aid kits as well as basic tool kits and fire extinguishers. The kits are located near the fire extinguishers in compartments in the wall that are not immediately visible. Hopefully, nothing's on fire and no one needs first aid... but that tool kit might come in handy.
Every now and then, as you explore, you might find yourself standing before a door that is locked. Try as you might, you will not be able to get it open.
( OOC: What items characters find of those who were there before them is up to players, but please limit it to a single item that is mundane and somewhat useless in nature. )

Sooner or later, all characters will have to make their way to the mess hall if they want to eat. In the mess hall, here are a number of replicator-like devices that sometimes work and sometimes don't— but after a recent malfunction that some characters may have noticed, they seem to work just fine... or at least as well as ever: nothing is particularly palatable, but at least it's nourishment, right?
So why not sit down at a table, whether it's already occupied or not, and have a meal. Maybe use it as an opportunity to introduce yourself, or just to complain about what passes for coffee around here.
And if coffee isn't your preferred beverage, well. There's always the bar.

For some, it's been over a week on the station. For others, merely a day or two. For all, things are starting to change: maybe you were asleep or maybe you weren't, but surely the scream that reverberates through the station will startle you. Was it human? Whatever it was, it seems to be coming from the walls of the station. Banging, clanging, then more screams.
Are you going to chase the sounds? Hide away from them? Try to investigate?
If you follow the sound of screams through the station's corridors and halls, you might feel someone - or was it something? - grab you from behind and pull hard. But when you turn around or turn your head if you've fallen, there's nothing and no one there. If you investigate and perhaps put your ear to a wall to see if the noises really come from there, or bang on the wall, you might hear something other than screams and clanging. Strain your ears and you might hear nothing at all — or you might be able to make out a soft "help me". It's barely above a whisper. Did it sound familiar? If you try to take apart the wall, two things will happen: you'll feel uncharacteristically weak and lethargic all of the sudden, and you'll find nothing at all but wiring and more metal.
Whatever you do, you'll find that the noises stop after a while, with no discernible source other than "the walls". And then hours later, they'll start again. Stop again. Start again a day later— and then stop for good.

Hello Reverie Terminal Operators! Welcome to our inaugural event. We hope you'll enjoy it!
To help exploration and interaction with the station, we have put together ten (10) 'actions' that you can request. These actions range from very minor, such as receiving a small piece of information about the station, to major, which may be a more vital piece of information or something far less pleasant, and are completely opt-in. These actions can help get your character involved in the plot, jump into the plot and its mysteries, and have more of a personal prompt to jump off of if you so wish.
Please note if you would avoid particular kinds of consequences (for example, if you'd rather your character not be injured), and we'll try to accommodate that, but please be aware that heavy themes are in play and the actions may feature body horror, injury and hallucinations.
If you'd like to receive an action, please reply to this comment with the following:
In the future, actions such as these may be "bought" with bonus AC.

Please use content warning in your top-levels wherever necessary.

God.
Why?
Ryuji's messing around in one of the entrances to a family quarters when she peeks her head in. He's not skittish, not easily scared or frightened by much of... anything... really, since his M.O. for the last year has been delving into and out of a psychological universe made out of humanity's most corrupt desires. But in space, where no one can hear you scream, or maybe, the people in this station can definitely hear him scream (but OUTSIDE, that's definitely devoid of sound), the teenage punk's swallows down a yelp.
Whatever that is, has wings, and is glowing, and Ryuji knows that anything that has wings and glows and happens to be human sized is probably out to kill him (sorry, Venus, just typical phantom thief stuff here), so he goes absolutely, perfectly still. Maybe she didn't see him. Maybe he won't be attacked if he doesn't make any movements at all and just pretends to be a statue. That'll work.
This isn't creepy at all.]
no subject
[ she has no idea what to make of this whatsoever. there's a person, and they're sitting so still she honestly thought it might have been a corpse at first? definitely not, though. for one, corpses don't stand straight up like that. (probably.) but more importantly, he's staring straight at her. so she clears her throat, and tries not to make direct eye contact (although it's hard - she's still not entirely used to controlling the dozens of extra eyes on her wings). ]
...sorry, ah- am I interrupting something? [ she shuffles a bit backwards, hiding most of her wings behind the doorway in. ] I'm just...
[ oh god, what if this isn't intentional? what if he's stuck like this? she's heard enough campfire stories to know how this goes - it just takes one angry devil with snakes for hair and you're all cramped up for the next few hours. she blurts out reflexively: ] Are you okay? Um, blink once for yes, and... not at all for no, I guess?
no subject
This is a dumb boy in one of his finest hours.]
Uh... nah, not... I mean, not really. [It takes a second for his brain to wind up to the conversation as he suddenly feels awfully embarrassed that he thought she was going to go all murder town on him.]
Like--- Yes, I'm okay. I'm cool! Eternally cool. [Not really.]
Sorry, I was freakin' out a little bit, since I wasn't expectin' to see the whole--- [hand gesturing, up and down.] Y'know, this sorta thing out... here... Shit, I'm bein' rude. My bad.
[A swing and a miss. He looks down at the floor, rubbing the back of his neck in a little bit of frustration.]
Let's start over?
no subject
No, no, it's fine! It's totally okay. I mean, you're probably not the first person to be freaked out by the devil? [ she smiles and laughs a tiny bit. this does not appear to have been a joke. ] Uh, if you want to start over, I'm okay with that? You go first this time.
no subject
Ryuji's eyes go wide at the mention of her being the devil, and for a second, he thinks he misheard wildly. Devil? Deviled eggs? De Ville? De Villain? No, she doesn't really look like... she's some scary monster that rules over the souls of the dead, but those wings kind of tell a different story. He gets the feeling he's being watched, from a lot of different angles. Which, on one hand, cool, at least one of those angles is his good angle, and on the other hand, okay, that's weird.]
Wait a sec- devil?
[Ryuji, the moth that he is, comes closer to the flame and starts to peer around her shoulders.]
Like the actual... devil. [Puts two fingers up and crooks them at the side of his head to make sure they're talking about the same horned fella that's usually depicted as a big red dude and 70s era beard.]
no subject
[ she's not saying any of that like it's an insult. as used as she is to self-deprecation, she's pretty darn happy with being in all of those groups. ]
And the devil doesn't always look like this? If that helps. It's kind of... It's a lot to explain, haha.
no subject
Ryuji's never gone to church, check.
All that's left is...]
Dude. Sounds like a cool gig.
[He takes down his devil's horns and briefly flashes her a toothy grin. Ah, whatever- people come from all walks of life, right? If he had never stepped inside the Metaverse with Ren for the first time, he would've been assumed to be some punk kid who just caused trouble for everyone else around him. He'd be a total hypocrite if he passed a book by its cover.]
Ryuji Sakamoto. You can just call me Ryuji, though. [But the really burning question here, that has to be asked---]
Can I touch your wings?
[Right past the handshake and straight into asking the things he probably Shouldn't Ask.]
no subject
[ and then he asks his question, and venus can't help but stare slack-jawed for a moment. it's not... a bad question? honestly, it's pretty cool that other people are this into it. but it's still a little off-putting, to go from "bastion of sin and want" to "cool enough for people to ask about touching." still, once she's done clearing her throat and blushing, she spreads her wings out and towards him. ]
Um... sure! Go ahead! Just, uh, be gentle with the eyes??
no subject
Hell yeah!
[Probably a little bit too excited at doing this, he moves forward, already biting back some of that initial intimidation to an almost too calm sense of ease at which he's willing to accept Quite Possibly Unreal things in his life. He does as he's told, avoiding the eyes, as he goes to touch, bring his hand back (he's nervous, he doesn't want to hurt her on accident or anything), and then shift his eyes downward to the devil, and smile warmly.]
How'd you uh. How'd you become the devil? Were you born like this?
[And coolly, he goes on to touch the wings as he had asked to do a few minutes prior. Huh. It has a nice texture.]
no subject
Huh? Oh, no! No way. [ and that's- mostly true, but it doesn't really tell the full story. how can she sum it up for someone who doesn't know? what can she say? she continues hesitantly, pausing and thinking for words every time she runs out. ] Well... Maybe? Sort of? It's kind of complicated. It's like... maybe all this was here, all this time? But I didn't know it was? And neither did anyone else.
[ none of it's quite right - a bunch of half-truths, not even intended as lies, are falling from her lips. but it's the only way she can really get it out right now. even if it's not the truth, maybe it's the lie that'll lead to it. ]
All it took the devil's voice to make me realize what I could do.
no subject
Huh?
[And he's lost in the translation of her messaging, not quite understanding what she was implying. He pieces the words back and forth in his head a few times over, eventually bringing his hands to his side and not touching her wings with such curiosity.]
That... doesn't really make a lot of sense. [But that doesn't mean he's showing any frustration at her explanation.
Listen, he gets it. How the hell is he supposed to explain a persona to someone when even he didn't really understand it completely himself?]
The devil's voice, huh? [Puts a hand to his chin, pensively (dangerous thing, really).] Well if I'm listenin' to the devil's voice right now, I gotta say, it's pretty smooth!
Oh shit, is that how it got you?
no subject
[ the feelings of fingers against her feathers is relaxing, now that she's gotten a bit more used to it. it's comforting, and it reminds her of jupiter's hands combing through her hair and wings and everything. it's sweet - just like this guy. when he says something that she honestly thinks might be a pick-up line, she can't help it: a laugh bursts out of her, high and delighted. ]
Oh my god?? You can't just say that? [ but she's definitely not complaining. any attention is nice, after all. ] No! I mean. Kind of? I'd definitely been thinking about it before then. Like, it was so obviously going to happen, you know? But her voice was...
[ the laughter peters out. all that's left are the memories of her voice, the feeling of honey on her tongue and a warmth caressing her soul. ]
It was perfect. It's more than I could ever describe.
