( 0 0 1 ) » WAKE UP

Were you asleep or were you unconscious? It doesn't matter: when you come to, there's an odd taste in your mouth and there's a low-level mechanical hum in the air. Your head hurts and you feel nauseous. You aren't anywhere you know: everything around you is metal, from the floor you lie on all the way to the ceiling. You are dressed in a jumpsuit you definitely weren't wearing before.

"We tried to save the world. I think— I think we did the opposite."

The message repeats on a loop. If you look for its source, you find a comms device on the floor next to you. The logo on its wallpaper says REVERIE TERMINAL. Upon closer inspection, you find the same logo on your jumpsuit.

Welcome to your new home.

( 0 0 2 ) LOOK AROUND

You've woken up — but where have you woken up? It may be time to explore your new home. Rifling through a crew quarter will make the room's terminal lock to the comms device you're carrying; the room becomes yours. That includes everything in it, from the additional jumpsuit to the two extra sets of underwear. In some quarters, you may find remnants of whoever was here before you: a book on the nightstand, a coffee mug still on the table, a lonely sock on the floor.

A look around the shared areas will reveal the bar, some of its bottles already open, the mess hall, observation deck and the gym area with its dirty pool. An even closer look around these areas might reveal basic first aid kits as well as basic tool kits and fire extinguishers. The kits are located near the fire extinguishers in compartments in the wall that are not immediately visible. Hopefully, nothing's on fire and no one needs first aid... but that tool kit might come in handy.

Every now and then, as you explore, you might find yourself standing before a door that is locked. Try as you might, you will not be able to get it open.

( OOC: What items characters find of those who were there before them is up to players, but please limit it to a single item that is mundane and somewhat useless in nature. )

( 0 0 3 ) HAVE A BITE

Sooner or later, all characters will have to make their way to the mess hall if they want to eat. In the mess hall, here are a number of replicator-like devices that sometimes work and sometimes don't— but after a recent malfunction that some characters may have noticed, they seem to work just fine... or at least as well as ever: nothing is particularly palatable, but at least it's nourishment, right?

So why not sit down at a table, whether it's already occupied or not, and have a meal. Maybe use it as an opportunity to introduce yourself, or just to complain about what passes for coffee around here.

And if coffee isn't your preferred beverage, well. There's always the bar.

( 0 0 4 ) NOISES IN THE WALLS

For some, it's been over a week on the station. For others, merely a day or two. For all, things are starting to change: maybe you were asleep or maybe you weren't, but surely the scream that reverberates through the station will startle you. Was it human? Whatever it was, it seems to be coming from the walls of the station. Banging, clanging, then more screams.

Are you going to chase the sounds? Hide away from them? Try to investigate?

If you follow the sound of screams through the station's corridors and halls, you might feel someone - or was it something? - grab you from behind and pull hard. But when you turn around or turn your head if you've fallen, there's nothing and no one there. If you investigate and perhaps put your ear to a wall to see if the noises really come from there, or bang on the wall, you might hear something other than screams and clanging. Strain your ears and you might hear nothing at all — or you might be able to make out a soft "help me". It's barely above a whisper. Did it sound familiar? If you try to take apart the wall, two things will happen: you'll feel uncharacteristically weak and lethargic all of the sudden, and you'll find nothing at all but wiring and more metal.

Whatever you do, you'll find that the noises stop after a while, with no discernible source other than "the walls". And then hours later, they'll start again. Stop again. Start again a day later— and then stop for good.

( O O C ) ACTIONS

Hello Reverie Terminal Operators! Welcome to our inaugural event. We hope you'll enjoy it!

To help exploration and interaction with the station, we have put together ten (10) 'actions' that you can request. These actions range from very minor, such as receiving a small piece of information about the station, to major, which may be a more vital piece of information or something far less pleasant, and are completely opt-in. These actions can help get your character involved in the plot, jump into the plot and its mysteries, and have more of a personal prompt to jump off of if you so wish.

Please note if you would avoid particular kinds of consequences (for example, if you'd rather your character not be injured), and we'll try to accommodate that, but please be aware that heavy themes are in play and the actions may feature body horror, injury and hallucinations.

If you'd like to receive an action, please reply to this comment with the following:

In the future, actions such as these may be "bought" with bonus AC.

Please use content warning in your top-levels wherever necessary.

Wait, is that paper? Like actual paper?

[Apparently this is MUCH weirder than the sock because Ezra can't take his eyes off of it. He's holding back from taking it from Hajime, but it's clear he wants a better look at it.]

I don't think I've ever seen any like... in person. Why would someone bring that here and then leave it behind?
hopefragment: (dr3-020)

[personal profile] hopefragment 2018-05-08 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Huh?

[Hajime just blinks at him in obvious surprise, extending the notebook out a little further in an obvious offer for this other guy to just take it if he wants.]

You... what? How could you never have seen paper?
merging: (11.)

[personal profile] merging 2018-05-08 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Because no one uses it anymore?

[Which is so obvious apparently. He takes the notebook in his own hands and runs his fingers through it.]

Weird... Guess someone on this station was an antique collector or something.
hopefragment: (dr3-015)

[personal profile] hopefragment 2018-05-08 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
What? [he says again, sounding even more lost and vaguely wondering if he's being made fun of, again.]

Even a nicer notebook is only going to cost a couple hundred yen. What do you use for school?
merging: (11.)

[personal profile] merging 2018-05-09 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, back at the Imperial Academy we used datapads? No one's used paper regularly since the Republic and even then...

[It was pretty scant!]

Is yen the currency on your planet? Cause in any other system, I bet you could scam some collector type out of a ton of credits.
hopefragment: (dr3-026)

[personal profile] hopefragment 2018-05-11 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Like... tablet computers?

[iPads? He can't help but feel a wave of resentment that this guy could go to a school rich enough for something like that. And then almost immediately after feel bad for being resentful, because this guy might not even come from Earth, if he's that confused by paper.

-Actually, scratch that, he's definitely not from Earth.]

Uh... not the whole planet, no. Just in Japan. The country I come from.

...Do you want to keep it? I don't mind, it's not a big deal to me.

[The notebook, that is.]
merging: (12.)

[personal profile] merging 2018-05-12 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, you know. Datapads.

[He makes a small rectangle with his hands that's about the size of a tablet computer to make sure, since he's never used that word to describe them.]

Huh. Never heard of it. And um... sure? I mean, if it's really not that big of a deal, I wouldn't mind taking it off your hands. Although I'd need to find something to write with if I wanted to use it myself...
hopefragment: (0k)

[personal profile] hopefragment 2018-05-15 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Sure, okay. iPads, he guesses. Fancy. Even Hope's Peak didn't have that for all their students, yet.]

It's a country on Earth. There's... a bunch of other people I've talked to who're from there. You've... seriously never heard of it?

[?? Which begs the question, where is this guy from?? But oh, right. He pats his pockets, looking for the pen that had been attached to the notebook.]

Oh, sorry... I must've left the pen in my room.

[Trying to give a gift, messes it right up. Sounds about right.]
merging: (05.)

[personal profile] merging 2018-05-16 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh.... you're from Earth? That makes a lot more sense. Earth doesn't exist in my galaxy.

[He says that all pretty casually because he's kinda gotten used to it at this point. At the same time, he keeps hoping and sorta forgetting Earth is apparently very different from any world he knows.]

It's fine, don't worry. This is pretty wizard on its own, and I can always get the pen from you later.
hopefragment: saying i fell just isn't working (i'm gonna tell them i wrestled a bear*)

[personal profile] hopefragment 2018-05-16 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh.

[He repeats it, in the kind of tone that suggests life is already so weird, this might as well happen. Because he really doesn't want to have a crisis over Earth not existing entirely. Again.]

You're from a different galaxy. Why didn't I think of that.

[Either this kid is a chuunibyou, or more likely at this point, he's telling the truth. Fantastic.]
merging: (12.)

[personal profile] merging 2018-05-16 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[Admittedly, it was a little hard for him to process universes without space travel and other sentient species and like everything he considers normal. But space time interdimensional stuff? Been there, done that.]

Yeah, probably different universe too. But the people here are from all over. Well, mainly Earth? There are a lot of you guys.
hopefragment: (hinata_id4783638-95-3)

[personal profile] hopefragment 2018-05-16 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[Meanwhile Hajime hasn't even been out of Japan before, let alone his galaxy.

He sighs and shakes his head, dragging a hand through his hair.]

Sure, that too. But even if you say there's a lot of us from Earth, it's like... there isn't anybody from my Earth, you know? Stuff that's common knowledge where I'm from, nobody's even heard of, here.

It just doesn't make sense. If there's a pattern here, I can't find it.
merging: (05.)

[personal profile] merging 2018-05-18 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
I guess... someone had a whole line-up of worlds, and kept pulling from a bunch of Earths but not all the same Earths? And then they got bored with that and pulled from a few non-Earths.

[That was a very scientific explanation, so he tilts his head and asks,]

Does that make any sense? I mean, I'm kinda just throwing things out there.
hopefragment: definitely not thinking about boobs (thinking carefully*)

[personal profile] hopefragment 2018-05-18 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
It makes about as much sense as anything else on this stupid station.

[Station. Even calling it what it is sounds weird? Like this is something normal, like a train station, instead of a legit space station.

He brings a hand to his lips, though, trying to actually put together a concrete theory out of it.]

I mean... it doesn't not make sense, but I can't imagine a person or an organization or something picking me as the only person from my Earth. But we had to get here somehow, so maybe all these... I don't know, wormholes or something, appeared on all our planets and sucked us in here? And we somehow lost our memory of it...
merging: (03.)

[personal profile] merging 2018-05-18 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know. Given everyone who's here, it makes the most sense if this whole thing is random like no one's picking anyone out specifically.

[Of course, he has a very specific idea of time spacey portals and has pulled someone out of one so that might be informing his theories a little.]

If there were wormholes, shouldn't people or things that were nearby be here too? Not that I'm complaining about leaving him behind, but... if that's the case, there really should be this other guy here with me. Unless he is? I mean, you'd know him if you saw him. Blue skin, red eyes, goes on and on about war and art?
hopefragment: (haji007 (1))

[personal profile] hopefragment 2018-05-20 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
[At least he has experience with space-time. Hajime most certainly does not, unless watching movies counts.

He shakes his head.]

I haven't seen anyone like that, no.

[...]

H-Hang on, did you say blue skin and red eyes? Like... an alien??
merging: (11.)

[personal profile] merging 2018-05-20 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. He's a Chiss, I think?

[Said completely casually, as usual.]

Right... humans are the only sentients on Earth, huh?
hopefragment: (haji014)

[personal profile] hopefragment 2018-05-24 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
Umm... yeah. Yeah, we are.

[Chiss?? Sentients, plural??]

Not just on Earth, but... as far as we know. I don't think they've found like, even bacteria and stuff on other planets yet.
merging: (09.)

[personal profile] merging 2018-05-24 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, see, that's still so weird to me?

[Although he knows it's all weird to them too! Everything is weird.]

I mean, there's a lot of humans out in the galaxy, yeah, but I grew up on a world with all sorts of species. Rodians, Ugnaughts, Ithorians, you name it.
