Were you asleep or were you unconscious? It doesn't matter: when you come to, there's an odd taste in your mouth and there's a low-level mechanical hum in the air. Your head hurts and you feel nauseous. You aren't anywhere you know: everything around you is metal, from the floor you lie on all the way to the ceiling. You are dressed in a jumpsuit you definitely weren't wearing before.

"We tried to save the world. I think— I think we did the opposite."

The message repeats on a loop. If you look for its source, you find a comms device on the floor next to you. The logo on its wallpaper says REVERIE TERMINAL. Upon closer inspection, you find the same logo on your jumpsuit.

Welcome to your new home.

( 0 0 2 ) LOOK AROUND

You've woken up — but where have you woken up? It may be time to explore your new home. Rifling through a crew quarter will make the room's terminal lock to the comms device you're carrying; the room becomes yours. That includes everything in it, from the additional jumpsuit to the two extra sets of underwear. In some quarters, you may find remnants of whoever was here before you: a book on the nightstand, a coffee mug still on the table, a lonely sock on the floor.

A look around the shared areas will reveal the bar, some of its bottles already open, the mess hall, observation deck and the gym area with its dirty pool. An even closer look around these areas might reveal basic first aid kits as well as basic tool kits and fire extinguishers. The kits are located near the fire extinguishers in compartments in the wall that are not immediately visible. Hopefully, nothing's on fire and no one needs first aid... but that tool kit might come in handy.

Every now and then, as you explore, you might find yourself standing before a door that is locked. Try as you might, you will not be able to get it open.

( 0 0 3 ) HAVE A BITE

Sooner or later, all characters will have to make their way to the mess hall if they want to eat. In the mess hall, here are a number of replicator-like devices that sometimes work and sometimes don't— but after a recent malfunction that some characters may have noticed, they seem to work just fine... or at least as well as ever: nothing is particularly palatable, but at least it's nourishment, right?

So why not sit down at a table, whether it's already occupied or not, and have a meal. Maybe use it as an opportunity to introduce yourself, or just to complain about what passes for coffee around here.

And if coffee isn't your preferred beverage, well. There's always the bar.

( 0 0 4 ) NOISES IN THE WALLS

For some, it's been over a week on the station. For others, merely a day or two. For all, things are starting to change: maybe you were asleep or maybe you weren't, but surely the scream that reverberates through the station will startle you. Was it human? Whatever it was, it seems to be coming from the walls of the station. Banging, clanging, then more screams.

Are you going to chase the sounds? Hide away from them? Try to investigate?

If you follow the sound of screams through the station's corridors and halls, you might feel someone - or was it something? - grab you from behind and pull hard. But when you turn around or turn your head if you've fallen, there's nothing and no one there. If you investigate and perhaps put your ear to a wall to see if the noises really come from there, or bang on the wall, you might hear something other than screams and clanging. Strain your ears and you might hear nothing at all — or you might be able to make out a soft "help me". It's barely above a whisper. Did it sound familiar? If you try to take apart the wall, two things will happen: you'll feel uncharacteristically weak and lethargic all of the sudden, and you'll find nothing at all but wiring and more metal.

Whatever you do, you'll find that the noises stop after a while, with no discernible source other than "the walls". And then hours later, they'll start again. Stop again. Start again a day later— and then stop for good.

These actions range from very minor, such as receiving a small piece of information about the station, to major, which may be a more vital piece of information or something far less pleasant, and are completely opt-in. These actions can help get your character involved in the plot, jump into the plot and its mysteries, and have more of a personal prompt to jump off of if you so wish.

Please note if you would avoid particular kinds of consequences (for example, if you'd rather your character not be injured), and we'll try to accommodate that, but please be aware that heavy themes are in play and the actions may feature body horror, injury and hallucinations.

[This is both awkward and totally familiar scene. She can't help feeling bad for the guy as she waits for her food to finish. She decides by the end of half-watching/listening to them and the food to be generous. She's going to take her food and sit with the smelly weirdo. She sits across from him like it's the most normal thing in the world to do.] Tough day, huh? It sucks enough being kidnapped so I'm really sorry you're fighting with your friend too.

[ when a young girl invites herself to his table, frank just narrows his eyes at her. he won't tell her to move because maybe a part of him doesn't want to be alone right now, but he's also not about to dignify her commentary with a response. everyone heard his fight with karen then, there went his plan to pretend they don't know one another from "home." he pauses his coffee only for a second to grunt in what is neither a confirmation nor a denial. sorry, kamala he's not feeling too chatty at the moment and certainly not about friendship. ]

It's okay. I totally understand if you're not ready to talk about it. [She picks at her food, forcing to eat it. Nothing will ever be as good as her mother's cooking, but she knows she has to settle. Sooner or later, the powers are going to come out. She can't slack off on calories until then.] I'm Kamala by the way. This is my first time being kidnapped in space. I've got to say it's really weird. Are you the only person the kidnappers beat up?

[The fact that she can't really date the bruising healing wise says a lot about her, huh?]

[ the people here are seriously chatty, it's like they specifically chose people to annoy frank. literally. ]

I wish they had tried. [ it's ground out through his teeth, and he squeezes his spork (or whatever you eat with in space) with his injured hand until it starts to bend. ] I'd've been the first and last one they tried it with.

[ he'll dial down the scary once his headache wears off. you know, probably. ]

[morphogenia]

[Wow this is really intimidating stuff. Kamala sips her drink like she's in the middle of watching whatever action movie from the 80s this guy seems to have escaped from.] Wow! So you totally need to do that when they show up. That face plus a threat? Basically anyone would be terrified!

[Which is why she's eating cheerfully with him.] We'll definitely need that scary energy when we escape.

[oorah]

[ except apparently you, he doesn't say. he does, however, bite his lip against a smile that threatens to twitch across his lips. ]

Don't worry, I've got instant replay.

[morphogenia]

[She gives him a thumbs up because of course she does.] Awesome because I have the opposite of a mean face. The best I can do is super annoyed. No kidnapper will ever take that seriously.

[oorah]

I could teach you - if you wanted. [ a shrug as he takes another long sip ] It's not that hard.

[ because clearly they're starting from the same baseline when it comes to acting tough ]

Really?! [Kamala can't help looking and sounding excited for this. She always wanted a mean face. Carol Danvers definitely has one so this will be perfect. Maybe she'll impress her whenever they meet by looking all tough and confident like her....

Oh right. He's still there. She clears her throat.] I mean if you're not busy during our kidnapping.

[oorah]

[ he just waits for her to remember she's talking to him, lifting an eyebrow as she cycles through whatever's going on in her head. ]

I think I can move a few things around.

Awesome! I'm totally game. [She holds her hands to her chest. If star eyes were physically possible, she'd have them right now.] I'm actually an amazing student so this won't take long.

[ oh yeah, piece of cake. make this adorable girl terrifying. no big thing. if frank could roll his eyes right now, he would. but he's too tired and it might hurt her feelings... ] First, stop smiling. [ he lowers his cup and inflicts the brunt of his stare her way. his eyes are dead, like a shark's. ]

[Kamala blinks in response to the change.] Wow that is really intense and frightening. You must seriously terrify people.

[She's already the worst at this given that she was smiling through that, but okay. She can try not to smile. Kamala puts on her best serious face line face :| ... and still smiles with her eyes. She's like a tiny sun that can't stop beaming.]

Only when that's what I want to do. [ she stops smiling and it's 0 help. but he doesn't seem deterred. ] Now think about something that really, really pisses you off.

[morphogenia]

[Kamala gives it some thought. What truly made her angry? She thinks back to the way Zoe talked to her at that party. She thinks of Kaboom, Kamran, and all the gross stuff they said to her. That actually does the trick even if it's less cold anger than righteous fury. She can feel her muscle expand just the tiniest bit in response so she shuts it down. The last thing she needs to do is start glowing in the middle of a kidnapping.] Whoops! I accidentally made myself mad for a second there.

[She laughs the whole thing off before asking a follow up question a second later.] Oh! Did it work? Did I look scary?

[oorah]

Angry is good. Pissed off beats scared every time. [ he nods his encouragement, she's got potential. ] Not bad for a first attempt.

[morphogenia]

Yay! [And back to all smiles and cheerfulness.] I swear I'll get better! Just give me some time, okay?

[oorah]

Sure, sweetheart. [ it's an easy agreement despite all the tough guy posturing. ] It's not like we have much else to do here.

[morphogenia]

Good point, but oh! You don't have to call me that because I do actually have a name. I just suck at introducing myself in stressful times!

[True story. How many times does she actually tell the people she's fighting that's she's Ms. Marvel? Basically never.] I'm Kamala. What's your name?

[oorah]

[ he doesn't have to but he still will. like, constantly. he nods though, offering up his name without a weird hesitation like he might usually. ] It's Frank.

[morphogenia]

[She offers up a bright smile in return.] That suits you! You totally look like a Frank.

[oorah]

[ that gets a tiny smile in return. he knows his name becomes him okay. ] My momma must've thought so, too.

[morphogenia]

Moms are super good at that stuff! My name was more of a team effort. [#Moreyouknow]

[ he smiles softly at that ] My name was her granddaddy's name. [ and then the smile, predictably, drops. because then he'd given that name to his son ]

[Kamala responds immediately even if she guesses the problem wrong.] Sorry. Were you close to him when you were little?
