( 0 0 1 » ENSEMBLE ) welcome to the inaugural log
» WHO? everyone
» WHEN? may 1 onward
» WHERE? all over the station
» WHAT? introductory log feat. waking up, exploration, meeting over food and noises in the walls
» WARNINGS? potential for body horror, psychological horror, hallucinations, physical injury

Were you asleep or were you unconscious? It doesn't matter: when you come to, there's an odd taste in your mouth and there's a low-level mechanical hum in the air. Your head hurts and you feel nauseous. You aren't anywhere you know: everything around you is metal, from the floor you lie on all the way to the ceiling. You are dressed in a jumpsuit you definitely weren't wearing before.
"We tried to save the world. I think— I think we did the opposite."
The message repeats on a loop. If you look for its source, you find a comms device on the floor next to you. The logo on its wallpaper says REVERIE TERMINAL. Upon closer inspection, you find the same logo on your jumpsuit.
Welcome to your new home.

You've woken up — but where have you woken up? It may be time to explore your new home. Rifling through a crew quarter will make the room's terminal lock to the comms device you're carrying; the room becomes yours. That includes everything in it, from the additional jumpsuit to the two extra sets of underwear. In some quarters, you may find remnants of whoever was here before you: a book on the nightstand, a coffee mug still on the table, a lonely sock on the floor.
A look around the shared areas will reveal the bar, some of its bottles already open, the mess hall, observation deck and the gym area with its dirty pool. An even closer look around these areas might reveal basic first aid kits as well as basic tool kits and fire extinguishers. The kits are located near the fire extinguishers in compartments in the wall that are not immediately visible. Hopefully, nothing's on fire and no one needs first aid... but that tool kit might come in handy.
Every now and then, as you explore, you might find yourself standing before a door that is locked. Try as you might, you will not be able to get it open.
( OOC: What items characters find of those who were there before them is up to players, but please limit it to a single item that is mundane and somewhat useless in nature. )

Sooner or later, all characters will have to make their way to the mess hall if they want to eat. In the mess hall, here are a number of replicator-like devices that sometimes work and sometimes don't— but after a recent malfunction that some characters may have noticed, they seem to work just fine... or at least as well as ever: nothing is particularly palatable, but at least it's nourishment, right?
So why not sit down at a table, whether it's already occupied or not, and have a meal. Maybe use it as an opportunity to introduce yourself, or just to complain about what passes for coffee around here.
And if coffee isn't your preferred beverage, well. There's always the bar.

For some, it's been over a week on the station. For others, merely a day or two. For all, things are starting to change: maybe you were asleep or maybe you weren't, but surely the scream that reverberates through the station will startle you. Was it human? Whatever it was, it seems to be coming from the walls of the station. Banging, clanging, then more screams.
Are you going to chase the sounds? Hide away from them? Try to investigate?
If you follow the sound of screams through the station's corridors and halls, you might feel someone - or was it something? - grab you from behind and pull hard. But when you turn around or turn your head if you've fallen, there's nothing and no one there. If you investigate and perhaps put your ear to a wall to see if the noises really come from there, or bang on the wall, you might hear something other than screams and clanging. Strain your ears and you might hear nothing at all — or you might be able to make out a soft "help me". It's barely above a whisper. Did it sound familiar? If you try to take apart the wall, two things will happen: you'll feel uncharacteristically weak and lethargic all of the sudden, and you'll find nothing at all but wiring and more metal.
Whatever you do, you'll find that the noises stop after a while, with no discernible source other than "the walls". And then hours later, they'll start again. Stop again. Start again a day later— and then stop for good.

To help exploration and interaction with the station, we have put together ten (10) 'actions' that you can request. These actions range from very minor, such as receiving a small piece of information about the station, to major, which may be a more vital piece of information or something far less pleasant, and are completely opt-in. These actions can help get your character involved in the plot, jump into the plot and its mysteries, and have more of a personal prompt to jump off of if you so wish.
Please note if you would avoid particular kinds of consequences (for example, if you'd rather your character not be injured), and we'll try to accommodate that, but please be aware that heavy themes are in play and the actions may feature body horror, injury and hallucinations.
If you'd like to receive an action, please reply to this comment with the following:

Sakuya Kira | Angel Sanctuary
[It takes Kira moment to open his eyes after waking up. He didn't know where he was, but he was in no hurry to get to the waking world and figure it out. He doesn't waste much time though, the curiosity getting the better of him after a moment on the uncomfortable metal floor. Maybe he'd have been more inclined to remain there if it was a pillowtop mattress or something.
Also, that message was beginning to get annoying. "I think— I think we did the opposite". What a crock.
Opening his eyes, he scoffed as he found the comm device, picking it up and then angrily looking it over. For being from the year 2000, he figures out how to shut it up quickly enough.]
This has got to be some kind of fuckin' joke.
[He wrinkles his nose as he gets up, noticing the HORRENDOUS jumpsuit as he searches the pockets.]
A cruel joke.
B. Observation Deck
[He was near it when he arrived, not having to go far to find the observation deck, which he figured would be a place he spent a lot of time. The first thing he noticed of course was his own reflection, which caught him by surprise. The face was almost the same, but younger, not scarred. He was aware that his wings were not manifested previously, but that was just something he did naturally.
Kira studies himself in the reflection for a moment, a hand on his jaw, before the strangeness of what was actually out there hit him. That... didn't look like Earth. There were two moons, for one, and the colors were off.]
Alright. Cool. Yeah.
[Freaking out just didn't happen for him, but that didn't mean he was not taken aback. Different planets were new to him. REAL new.]
Hey! Anyone got a cigarette around here?!
[He needed a nicotine fix already.]
C. Mess Hall
[So, this was space prison. Kira decided that when he got his food in the mess hall. Or maybe space boot camp. Either way, what the actual hell?
He's in a crappy mood as he sits down at a table, taking a seat next to literally anyone who was there because this was already bad enough without having to do it on his own. No way was he going to sit here and sadly eat this less than palatable food in his ugly jumpsuit by himself.]
So. Whaddya think? This 'space prison' or is it 'space boot camp'?
D. Voices
[The screaming was new. Was it familiar? Even he was not sure anymore. He was sure it was someone he knew, but Kira was in no rush to rescue anyone.
At least, not visibly. Can't have anyone think he was too invested in anyone or anything, right???? Right. Whether they knew him as Lucifer or not, he was still a 'disenchanted teen' who totally did not care, ok.
That said, anyone who came across Kira would find him on his knees in front of a patch of the wall that had been opened up, his head hanging in front of the open wound of wires and metal, a hand still on one of the plates that had hidden it. He felt like an idiot.]
Finally remember, just in time to be taken so far away that I'm going mad, I guess.
b
but people talking about cigarettes? she can handle that, at least. she flashes an unsteady smile kira's way, shaking her head softly. ]
Mm. Sorry. I haven't heard about anyone finding anything yet.
[ her jumpsuit is tied off at her waist, the white tank leaving more than enough room for her wings to come out behind her. still, she's much more relaxed than she was her first day - the eyes on them roll around slowly, taking in the entirety of the room rather than darting from person to person. ]
no subject
That's way too much effort. Instead, Kira blinks a couple of times, very slowly, before addressing the girl.]
Never seen wings like that before. Who'd you piss off?
[He'll lament the lack of cigarettes in a minute. Those wings really took him off guard.]
no subject
Um. God, technically? [ there is literally no way around that. there are about twenty thousand people she's pissed off and all of them are because her wings are a middle finger to the heavens. ] Along with like everyone else in the Midwest. But God's probably the most important one there.
[ she doesn't seem too torn up over it - given the way she relaxes as the giggles finally leave her, and the way she leans back against the wall to talk more directly with kira. ]
no subject
Who hasn't though, honestly?
[Kira didn't miss him. Lucifer didn't miss him.] May be the most direct reason for the wing eyes, but that don't make him the most important. Not by far. I mean, fuck 'im, right? What's he done for us lately?
[Huh. Was she fallen then? Who knows? He didn't seem maybe as surprised or tense about all of that that a normal guy might, but he honestly could not be assed to act more upset. After all, if he was locked way out here and there was some other angel with a strange deformity, how could he be? At least he didn't get stuck into a sword this time.]
Can't fuckin' believe no one's got their hands on cigarettes yet.
no subject
[ it's dropped casually, with no idea of how kira might take it. venus doesn't think she's talking to the devil right now, after all - she thinks he's doing it, if anything. ]
Ugh. I know, right? Like, everyone says you have to be grateful for creation, and his Grand Plan, and all of that, but also... It's kind of a shitty creation?? Like, sorry, but he put in a lot of shitty parts. And whenever you point that out, it's Part of God's Plan and For the Greater Good? It's the worst.
[ she laughs as she finishes her little tirade, smiling warmly towards kira. she doesn't know him yet - not even a little bit! - but it's nice having someone she can just. talk to like this? she's been walking on eggshells since she got here, explaining the devil and god and who she is, and having someone to commiserate with is just. well. nice. ]
You're like the third person here I can talk to about that stuff. It's pretty rad. [ a beat. she crosses her arms, gives a tiny wave. ] I'm Venus. I'd, uh, give you a cigarette if I had one?
no subject
Yeah, fuck that shit, honestly. Anything to piss off the big man.
[He likes the tirade, honestly. Kind of reminds him of home.]
We'll figure out the cigarettes at some point though. No rush. I mean, until I start getting withdrawals or something.
no subject
Ugh. Why does so much stuff give you withdrawals? Coffee, alcohol, cigarettes... It's like, if something is any fun your body doesn't want you doing it. Or stopping, at least.
no subject
[He laughed a little at that.]
Sucks when you don't got a choice though, right? Anyway, I'm Kira. It's nice to meet you, despite the circumstances. You'll keep an eye out for cigarettes for me, right?
no subject
[ "sucks when you don't got a choice though." yeah, that's really what it is, isn't it? venus isn't about defiance so much as freedom. she wants to be who she is, whether or not it's good or bad.
but right now, bad doesn't sound too awful. so she flashes him a grin, and says- ]
Totally. As long as you let me try one.
[ she's not even that interested. but, well, it's worth a try, right? ]
no subject
Hell yeah I will! I'd let you try whatever you want. You need anything and you come to me, you got it?
[He actually meant it too, surprisingly. He might be a piece of shit, but he was a piece of shit who loved to enable people.]
I'll see what I can scrounge up myself too.
no subject
[ she's not sure how long that's going to last. hopefully long enough? but it feels rude to not say anything after all this. ]
no subject
Ah, right. You should probably hold on to that. Maybe we can get a bunch of shit together and have a party later.
[A shitty space party, but you know, whatever.]
I bet we could have a fun trip if we get fucked up here on the observation deck and look out onto the stars. Or a terrible one, but that's how it goes.
no subject
[ that's probably what akira would want, anyway. even if her one experience with his
straighthuman best friends was about as Decidedly Uncool as you can get??? when he brings up the stars, she has a moment of actual contemplation - legitimately turning and staring outside the window - before she responds. ]That sounds amazing. [ and she's not exaggerating, either. that much is clear in her voice. ] How many other people do you think have gotten to do something like that?
no subject
Guess I'm more obvious than I thought I was. Figured maybe you wouldn't recognize me if I didn't recognize you.
[His memory might just still be fuzzy. There were a lot of centuries to remember, after all.]
Wishful thinking. Hey, do me a favor and just keep on pretending I'm human, alright? Sakuya Kira, totally human burnout.
[That should do it. She didn't seem too keen on outing him, anyway. Even outed, he couldn't help but think on how that would be. Sitting out in space, maybe feeling one with the cosmos.
He kind of wished Katou was here.]
I doubt any human back home has ever even dreamed of such a thing. Angels and demons probably haven't done anything like it either.
We've got a pretty unique situation.
no subject
[ she looks at him with a real, honest-to-god look of confusion for a good three seconds. but then it sinks in, and suddenly she knows exactly what's being said. he's like her. well, maybe a little less out about it, but... there's no way around it. he's the devil. ]
Yeah, don't worry. I can keep quiet. [ and she can, too. she hasn't even mentioned akira to the others yet - although his best friend's meltdown may have had something to do with that. ] Kira. Got it. I'd tell you to pretend I was human too, but I think I'd honestly slap you if you did?
[ it's a lie. a boldfaced one, at that. she'd only do it jokingly and then apologize for half an hour. but that's not as important as the feeling she's getting across, or the next juicy bit of info she's got to offer- ]
Either way, you're not alone. There's two others like us on the station. [ at least goes unsaid. secrets are serious business!! ] I think you'd like them? They're way cooler than me. Haha.
no subject
People didn't love Lucifer. They followed him, worshipped him, feared him, or hated him, but he was something more than a person to the point of never being a person. Sakuya Kira was a person. A huge fuckup who smoked and drank and slept around, who was an asshole and yet still was treated just like anyone else.]
I dunno, I think you're pretty cool. Wouldn't say no to more company though, we're a long way from home. And you know what they say about misery and company.
[Or something. Whatever. He hadn't bothered making friends in some time, but he felt like he probably would not... end up saving them from overdoses or anything. Probably for the best? But it did mean he was going to have to start feeling missing people. Blech.]
You know it'd be real hard to just pretend you were human, what with you just walking around with your wings exposed like that.

girlfriends here with her to share the burden. Handling it completely alone with no one here you knew would be.... very tough, and she'd experienced that for at least a few hours before they'd all found each other. So, Jupiter was gonna just subtly scoot over just a tad when he plops right down next to her, setting her cup down and turning to look at him. If he wanted some company, she'd give it to him, she supposed.]Depends, did you piss off God too?

Yup.
But God is dead now so like. What the fuck is up with that?
[He notices how she scooted away but like. Whatever. He's used to that.]
Did everyone here piss off God? I mean, I'm used to that, but the space shit is new.

Well, at least three of us did. Four, if you want to be counted?

People shouldn't have to be concerned about all that morality bullshit anyway. Their lives are too short, and the payoff for holding yourself back isn't worth it.

Hm.
[He paused, thinking on it for a moment, tapping his chin.]
Well. A long, long time ago, I was a real good guy, then I was told it was my destiny to fall to darkness. And I did. Spectacularly. And I've been down there for a long, long time.
