I. INVESTIGATION (ACTION)

[ Should anyone be present in the recently opened command deck, there are a pair of teens currently situated at one (1) command terminal after one calls the other one over (his name is "Akira," apparently). Either way, some might recognize the one in all white as Ryo, who seems to have come across something very interesting if you take the time to peer over after they've finished a brief recording and summarily a longer text post on Ryo's end. Longer doesn't really mean much to him, it seems, as he finishes and posts it at an impressive clip.

After some idle manipulation of the screen on both their parts, Ryo eventually will notice anyone else who seemingly wants to get in on what they're looking at. He doesn't really look up, but offers this question as he idly scrolls through the interactive map he has up. ]

Would you like to take a look? [ Respond or not, he'll eventually glance over once he completes a second scan of one deck. ]

II. RECORD & PLAY (MAP.AVI & TEXT)

[ The video attached to this post is short, but lacking no details. It opens to a pair of teens arranged like opposing bookends. While one the teen in white sweeps through the map on the framed interface, the teen in black lingers beside him. There's no sound, but the conversation seems rather animated on the teen in black's behalf. The one in white answers him more succinctly, but the focus is undeniably the way that one targets specific locations on each deck. As he goes, there's a steady stream of information translated into visual format. Every once in a while, the teen in white's neutral expression softens a little when the more excitable one isn't looking, something around the corners of his eyes as he glances to him. Eventually, once he's covered all the discoveries he seems to have made, he lets the teen in black take over and steer the map with much less grace and precision before powering the communicator off. ]

Good afternoon.

As you've seen here, in investigating the newly available command terminal, I've come upon an interactive map. For ease of access, I'll list the key locations and their features:

Deck 1 (inner ring): a farm and a chapel.
Deck 2: a restricted room connected to the mess hall with a four digit numeric combination named "plants."
Deck 5: a restricted room named "library" with a four digit numeric combination and a restricted room with an eight digit numeric combination named "medical and research."
Deck 6: a hangar.
Deck 7: storage and recycling.
Shaft: "maintenance."

(Here is a screen capture as well: map.jpeg)

As we are aware, many of these locations are inaccessible to us for a variety of reasons. However, there are several areas that have the potential to be opened with more immediacy.

I'm certain some of you are familiar with the mathematical probabilities of particular passwords. Attempting those you know are common first before proceeding to those more difficult and unlikely (with the exception of suggested "secure" passwords) would be our best solution. I've included a procedurally generated list of possible combinations for each door (assuming each are numbered 0-9). If inclined, please update the documents as you use them to avoid entering the same pins. If manual input is necessary, my suggestion would be to take shifts.

4 digit combinations rep plants.docx / 4 digit combinations rep library.docx
4 digit combinations no rep plants.docx / 4 digit combinations no rep library.docx.
8 digit combinations rep.docx, 8 digit combinations no rep.docx.

The combinations provided should be 10,000 possibilities and 5,040 possibilities for four digit combinations respectively and 100,000,000 possibilities and 40,320 possibilities for eight digit combinations respectively.

Considering our prolonged stay, I believe the medical and agricultural should be our initial focuses. However, the former is also one of our greatest challenges.

Of course, if you have objections, you're more than free to do as you'd like without further comment or suggest alternatives.

It should also be noted that the command terminals themselves request an access code to see further information. At this time, it seems far more intensive than many listed here.

Thank you.

( ooc: yes, those links lead nowhere because there's way too many possibilities to generate and most generation tools refuse in any organized fashion. also, if you'd like to see all possible 4 digit combinations (with and without repetitions): here you go. now you know why i didn't link them lol. for those who are interested in breaking the command terminal code, it would take about six days of continuous work with no breaks according to the answers provided here.

this is an open post for ryo, but feel free to make your own prompts in this area in your own posts! i would be 100% down for everyone gatherin' here, but my inbox... lol.)

[He hadn't really expected to stumble across something which he and Ren both shared, that they had both been from relatively isolated parts of the country before relocating to a place as big and as wild as Tokyo. Fortunately, he'd had the Makimuras to introduce him to the city, showing him how he could see Mount Fuji through his window on a clear day, acclimating him by degrees so he could begin to feel at least somewhat comfortable as quickly as a kid could adjust to an entirely different city, an entirely different family, an entirely different way of life.

If he and Ren talked about it, they would have a decent amount in common in this regard.

Anyways, he definitely thinks he's being subtle, but it's entirely correct that Akira Fudo doesn't have a subtle bone in his body. It's easy enough for both of them to see, though he tempers quickly after Ryo rests a hand on his forearm, the light touch of his fingertips immediate in distracting him. The point he was trying to make with this gesture and the exchanged look was clear enough as well. Well, Ren seems to be playing it civil with them in addition, so he decides to back off at least a little bit, his body language growing less defensive and more lax. He listens as best he can when Ren speaks up, but... eventually his eyes just sort of glaze over. He emits a low groan.]
Aw, fuck, are both of you like this? [People who know math? Eugh. He spent enough of his energy tuning out the worst of the technical bullshit that Ryo trots out on the regular.

He sighs throug his nose, looking away. He'd already seen the pages full of numbers, and he vaguely understands what they mean by an algorithm, but honestly the only thing keeping him here rather than wandering off to go mess with something else is Ryo's hand resting in the crook of his arm.]

Well, just guessin' ain't gonna do much good. We better get something tryin' to crack these codes, and preferably not by hand. We'd still be puttin' in codes by the time we're all old.

[He glances to Ryo at the movement of his hand, the path of his fingertips down his arm before it drops back into his lap. Freed, Akira shrugs, wandering over a few paces to inspect another machine.] Well, if you two nerds wanna try to figure that out, go right ahead. Just let me know when you need me to break something.

[After saying that, it draws some concern to how closely he's inspecting that terminal...]
