( OPEN & CLOSED ) Always thought I knew the song I just memorized the words.
» WHO? JYN ERSO & YOU
» WHEN? JULY 12 & onward
» WHERE? basically all over the station.
» WHAT? jyn harassing everyone like it's her JOB.
» WARNINGS? ^^ see above
(( feel free to wildcard me or plot with me over here! ))

» i was praying eagerly to sleep (CHAPEL)
[ jyn doesn't consider herself a religious person. but in retrospect, there was very little of her life that hadn't been accounted for. planned out carefully between her father and who she could only assume was a righteous god. or maybe that's really what they call the force, something beyond oneself that moves the board beneath her feet. she looks down at her given boots and frowns, tapping them together so the red gravity light engages. it isn't how she's used to traveling in space, but the inconsistency is almost comforting in a way. it's the way jyn's life has always gone: uprooted and taken on the next great adventure before she can wrap her head around it one way or another.
she reads the words in the wall, some she understands. some she doesn't. turning to the person nearest her, she waits until they look up from their prayers, her gaze desperate as it seeks theirs. ]
Do you believe in fate? [ it's urgent. she'll wait intently for a reply, wrists clasped between her knees as she pitches forward insistently. ]
» thinking about a garden i left (PLANTS)
[ it's inspiring, to see everyone working together after the garden's discovery. it reminds her of her parents' farm, of long peaceful days in the sun. jyn crouches by the bucket of intermingled herb seeds and smiles as she identifies each one by sight, separating them out so the scientists and experts can do their testing. it's a simple task, but one she clearly takes joy in, though some might find it tedious. ]
It's amazing how even all the way out here... away from everyone and everything we care about, human nature still prevails. Everyone here helps each other.
[ well she's sure not everyone, but there are a good number of people here. it's heartening to see. she was told the bridge was first, then the chapel, and now this place. none of them are much now, but she knows with human ingenuity they will flourish soon. she wants to be a part of seeing that through, addressing anyone who will listen: ]
So - what's next?
» it was a whole new world (BRIDGE)
[ it isn't like the bridge of any ship she's ever been on, truthfully, and jyn instantly knows she's out of her element. she feels like a little kid again, following her father to work. she squints up at the big screen, the commander everyone here calls "ghost" frozen into frame. jyn looks down at the uniform she's wearing, the same exact one donned by their mystery woman. it's hard not to feel a certain solidarity with her, or just to wonder what was going through her mind at this exact moment.
jyn un-pauses the video just as someone walks in, and she flips around to great them. ] Is she the woman we heard in the communicator? She tried to save the world? [ what does that even mean? ]
» truth grew through like a bramble weed (OBSV DECK)
[ jyn arrived shortly after the music stopped, but she'd heard about that from everyone she'd encountered over the past few days. to someone who didn't go through it, it's hard not to think of it as silly. she'd tried not to smile, but a few people had gotten cross with her. it's merely difficult for her to see this place as evil when she'd only seen the good so far. the light in other's hearts as they sacrificed for one another. it's what she and her father had fought for. she leans forward until her forehead presses against the glass, hands clasped behind her back as she stares at the planet below. is this the world ghost tried to save?
after a while she leans back onto her heels, accidentally engaging the mag-locks again. she'll get the hang of all this fancy space tech someday. for now, she pulls out her mother's necklace from where it had been concealed in her jumpsuit, always fastened up to the highest point. she touches the crystal with reverence, her eyelids growing heavy with memory. ]
Perhaps we've got it all wrong. What if these people were just like us, once? [ she's thinking aloud, not actually concerned if anyone is close enough to hear her. she's referring to the original crew of reverie terminal. ] Lost, scared, alone. They deserved rescue just as much as we do.
» there was nothing hiding you from me (BODHI)
[ it had been natural, to claim the room next to his. they were the only evidence of rogue one aboard, after all, and teammates had to stick together. jyn found herself craving his presence at all hours, needing a dose of the familiar at steady intervals. it's what has her wrapping on the wall between their rooms, face vulnerable and young when she asks: ] Bodhi, are you awake?
[ it isn't too late yet, but it's far past dinner and sundown. she knows how to get into his room, but maybe this is safer somehow. it gives her time and saves her face until she can school her expression into something slightly more neutral. she's supposed to be strong for him, a leader. someone he can count on for all things. she would sorely hate to let him down. ]
The discovery on Deck One has me thinking... Isn't there a locked door on this deck?

Bridge
He's might not be the woman on the tape, but they share the same stance - his stride is steady and easy, his back straight and his chin is lifted. He's military. He commands.
The only thing that throws him off, is the way the stranger turns to him unexpectedly. There's a heartbeat of surprised pause, then he nods.]
She is. But what she did is up for debate.
no subject
We'll never know unless we meet her ourselves, not for sure.
no subject
[He looks over her head to the video, watching Ghost as she gives out the order he's heard so many times. It means nothing more now than it did all those before.]
But just because someone says something is good, even if they honestly believe it, doesn't necessarily make it so.
no subject
[ she says it as though it's hallowed, like a secret maybe, except one that she wants him to know. jyn tips her head. ]
Perhaps that isn't for us to interpret.
no subject
When I get kidnapped across time and space, against my will, I get the right to judge.
[He looks at her a beat longer - honestly - then exhales a breath.]
And the library's locked. No access yet.
no subject
[ as well as any history or record the people of reverie terminal may have left behind. ]
What makes you so sure this is a kidnapping?
no subject
It's on the list. There's a lot we don't have access to and these doors fight back. [He takes a breath. Patience.] Pretty sure being taken without my consent to somewhere I don't want to be and being held without an option to return qualifies under the definition.
no subject
Is there a list? Or are you dismissing me? [ it's bright, a casual inquiry rather than accusatory. ] Ah. You and I are trapped, but that doesn't mean we are kept.
I'm positing that perhaps no one knows we're here at all. Aside from ourselves, of course.
no subject
[Another glance the video.]
Someone or something brought us here, and it keeps messing with us.
no subject
So no one is trying for the library, that you know of, at least not yet. You seem like you know quite a bit about who is and isn't involved in these missions, would that be an unreasonable assumption?
[ at least he concedes that it could be something. not a person. not these people who could also be victims. ]
Something did escort us all here, yes, and against our will. Has anything happened to you other than the music everyone experienced? Another man told me he was cut.
no subject
[Then he shakes his head and sighs.]
No. Not yet.
[And that was really one of the worst parts. Yet. It seems almost inevitable at this point.]
But I've heard of others. Some are pretty personal- [he says before she can ask, because they aren't his stories to tell] -are none are pretty.
no subject
I appreciate the information, and anything else you could tell me about the efforts to open the rest of the station, past and present.
Personal. [ that's disturbing, but starts to lend credence to why people think they're being held. jyn nods before going on tentatively, ] That's why you believe it's torture, set about by invisible captors.
no subject
Getting in here was the first success after I arrived. It took us eight painful hours to get in here. Since, the pool's been scrubbed, chapel and greenhouse opened, the replicators are being repaired....
[He can acknowledge the good in there. Knows how important it is.]
Some of it seems random - like when she started her hauntings. Who saw her first? [He nods his head toward the video where "Ghost" moved through her little play again.] Others are clearly targeted. The physical harm has been temporary so far [which was it's own can of worms], but psychologically?
[He purses his mouth into a thin line for emphasis.]
Torture.
no subject
Then that's even more reason to rally together and find the cause, rather than blaming images of people we don't even know are alive.
no subject
[One corner of his mouth twists, a dry, dark sort of humor.]
I'm more than capable of both.
[And he steps forward, moving past Jyn then to get to the consoles. He had come for a reason, after all.]
no subject
Do you have some authority here? You carry yourself like a commander. Like the woman in these video logs.
no subject
He keeps working, but sorts a low laugh when she asks.]
Right now, I think it's safe to say it's the station that's in charge in here. [He glances over his shoulder at her then.] But back home, you wouldn't be wrong. Good eye.
no subject
Is there some way I can help you with your task? [ once you tell me what it is??? hello ]
no subject
You wanna push the button for me?
no subject
How many times have you watched these?
no subject
He moves to one of the bridge chairs (not the Captain's chair, even across time and space, it's an unspoken law he cannot break) and eases himself into it. His legs stretch and he kicks his feet up on the console.]
Enough. Other than the one you were watching, the rest doesn't amount to much.
[But still, this is the one he wanted. Just the crew, moving about the bridge, going about their duties, talking among themselves about nothing.]
no subject
Does it remind you of home?
no subject
I don't know what they're talking about, not technically. ...But it's familiar. I like the noise of it.
[Voices, calling out readings, confirming instructions. Easy, confident rapport, between people who knew their duties.]
no subject
I hope you don't mind if I watch with you.
[ because she's not going anywhere. ]
no subject
She looks nothing like him - that slight, dark-haired teen who'd been all but swallowed by the James' helm - but for a moment, he thinks of him.
And he finds that, no, he doesn't actually mind.]
It's a free station.
