but, with things settling, jim was on a mission to figure this place out. sure, maybe stopping at the bar, a place he's been a few times, wasn't the best place to focus himself but everyone needed a drink sometimes and he thinks he's got a good reason. he had died. he'd been stricken with radiation poisoning and he'd said his goodbyes and he'd died.
but here he was, alive and in one piece. he's actually been wondering if maybe he shouldn't find someone with some medical training to check him out since he's not sure if radiation lingers after you die.
but for now, he's going to have a drink and kick his feet up on the stool beside his. he's going to take some comfort in being alive even if he's far away from where he needs to be. )

he reaches out and touches it but nothing happens. he tries it again but again, nothing happens. )
Shoddy craftsmanship.

Kind of don't want to repeat that again.
( jim's minding his own business when somethings jerks him backwards. a loud sound of tearing echoes off the walls and before jim can really stop it, the stupid jumpsuit he's wearing is ripped from side to the small of his back.
he stares at the wall, offended, and just notices a protruding edge he's apparently caught the cheap fabric on and, with minimal strength needed, had ripped a gaping hole in the thing. )
Perfect.

[The teenager standing behind him had come into the area more out of a need to explore than an knowledge of ships and command centers. If course he had expected company, but Kirk's comment made him deeply curious about what it could mean.]
Re: 2!
( maybe something simulating that would be fun at an amusement park but jim would just take a hard pass on anything like that happening again. )
The pull of gravity isn't very easy to combat. You sometimes have to take extreme measures and that's why I don't want it to happen again.
( his one wish for his life. )
sorry for the late tag
[But on to more important things.]
You had a spaceship?
it's all good!
( not to toot his own horn but --- okay it's totally to toot his own horn. )
Nothing like this though. It actually moved. Called the Enterprise.

With a heavy sigh, she follows after him, stopping at the door she's pretty sure he's behind and giving a solid knock. If he's got a hole in his clothes, he might be injured, and there are some idiots on this station who refuse to let anyone check them over when they need it. (She's one of them, but nevermind that.) She's here already, so might as well make sure he's alright. ]
Re: ⥤ 03.
Door's open.
( he turns to look over his shoulder, see who might be visiting him on this fine day. )
If I'd known I was going to have company, I might have cleaned up a bit.

I, uh, saw what happened. Just wanted to give you a heads up in case you didn't see it, there's another jumpsuit in your closet.
Re: 3
( jim's voice sounds amused from behind his door. the hole's a pain in the butt but little else. he reaches to pull the door open to see who's there and smiles. )
I was just thinking of wearing this one until it started falling apart at the seams. Little hole never hurt anyone, right? It'll make this thing more breathable.
( and it's not like the suit's providing much padding to stop a knife or a gun. but, that hole is pretty big and he can just see bones glaring at him for leaving himself open to catch some new space virus. he was so grumpy. )

Hey.
[She hasn't seen him in person, but she recognizes him from the video chat the other day.]
I guess that's one way to look at it. Still, you might be able to sew it up.
[Don't ask her how. She flunked out of home ec.]

If you plan on drinking your way through your first month... I'll support you. [ his eyes slide sideways, yeah. he can't even pretend he's judging when he's only been sober like two weeks now. ]
Re: bar bitch
( besides, this alcohol was shit. he had a lot of reasons to drink but they were so bad that he was going to sit here and stomach this shit for too long. )
That happen a lot around here? People sitting at the bar, drinking this swill and contemplating their new lives in space?

"I've seen worse freighters in my day, though for a station... It does leave something to be desired." An admittance as her reflection swims into view on the black screen, showing her hovering over his shoulder in her green jumpsuit, hands clasped securely behind her back even as she tips forward. "There's probably a key. Our ghost commander must have taken it with her."
Jyn nods to the big screen even though that too is black now. She still can see her face clearly in her mind's eye, barking clipped orders and apologizing in their device for not saving the world. Who was she that she would take on such a steep responsibility? That too nests in her own guts, twisting her around as she empathizes with the woman she's likely never to meet, and not for the first time. She was lost for a moment in her own thoughts and must have missed the subject change, turning her eyes to the back of Jim's head.
"What wouldn't you like to repeat?"
Re: 2
He doesn't take his eyes away from the screen that he's in front of. His own face stares back at him, drawn and weary, but alive. He leans forward the slightest bit, trying to make sure the signs of radiation sickness are truly gone. He's felt fine since arriving but he has no idea how this works. That was Bones' freaking job, keeping him alive and this station had no Bones to speak of.
"Last time I was on my ship, that's what was happening," Jim tells her, sighing. "We'd lost the warp drive and got sucked in by the planet's gravity. Considering this station and the proximity of that planet, I don't want it to happen again."
no subject
"This station seems to have been in this same trajectory for long enough that I doubt it would befall the same fate. Still - it's worth being cautious of." A warp drive... "Do you mean hyperspace?"

command
You're only saying that because you can't get it to work.
[She's more amused than accusatory, and flashes him a smile as she sets her work aside. The bridge is one of the places she's been spending a lot of time lately, and it's always nice to see a new face up here appreciating the area. She's just about to open her mouth to say something else when it dawns on her that she's selectively heard all that he's said, and has only commented on the first half. He's definitely just given her a nice lead to cling hold of and question him on, and she really should latch onto it and get some answers.]
What are you trying to avoid repeating? Looking like you're playing at being a captain in front of a stranger?
[He's cute. His being here trying to make things work is cute. ]
Re: command
( and jim thinks that grants him some leeway, at least. it won't take him long to get the hang of this though. granted, he's used to things working and not being dark and silent but that's just a little bump in the road that he can overcome. )
I'm not playing at anything. I am a captain. Just not of this station and the last thing I remember before showing up here was my ship and another ship speeding down towards the surface of the Earth because we were caught in their gravity and the Enterprise was busted up.
( well, that was the last thing before the dying. the dying was the real last thing. )
I'd rather avoid that and considered there's a planet below us...
( he trails off and winces. )

Not everything on the bridge is as function as it should be. But if you're a captain somewhere else...maybe you could have some luck figuring out how to switch them on?

That is, until he hears the commotion, and comes up from under the console, spinning a wrench between his fingertips as he finds the guy.
Amos's own jumpsuit is still in the same fashion - rolled down to the hips, the arms tied around his waist. The shirt is spotting some oil stains from disemboweling machines all day, and it's a touch too tight around the arms. ]
Trying to create a new trend?
Re: 3
Depends on if you'd think it would catch on.
( looking him over, jim certainly hopes it would especially in this man's neighborhood. that was an upper body, there. )
I hope it would.
( it would be a dream come true. )

Heard a lot of people complain that it's cold in space.
[ To Amos, space has been all sorts of temperatures, but he's definitely used to cold walls enough that it doesn't affect him anymore, and hasn't for a long time. ]
But you wear it well.

the comment draws her attention. it isn't the fact that he's used to space that does it, so many people here are, but that he's familiar with structures or how these places should look )
Are you familiar with places like this?
Re: ( 02 )
( the answer would be yes to both of those though so he probably should have just said that. )
Little more familiar with ships rather than stations but I've been on things like this a few times. They were never this dormant but same general idea.

( she's curious, more about his knowledge than the uses of the bridge though she can get two things answered. most people that knew about space only seemed to know about some parts of it )
