[ Peter ambles into the meeting and looks around to see if Ricki is there, and in so doing, passes near Kovacs and glances in his direction. He doesn't mean to catch the other man's eye, precisely—does not, at this point, know him from Adam save for Ricki's anecdote—but he does in one of those moments where people happen to be looking in the right direction at the same time. He nods in greeting. ]

( it takes kovacs a slow moment to realize that nod's meant for him and not someone who's beside him or behind him. he has no idea who the guy besides someone who'd been on the network a little while ago.

for a second, kovacs thinks about not responding at all but this guy might be one of the few he didn't try and fuck over during the music and the subsequent shit with his sister.

so, he nods back. took some time but it happened. you're welcome, peter. )

[ Fellow of few words. All right. Peter could leave it at that, but he's trying to make small talk where he can, now. ]

So what're you looking to get out of this?

Entertainment.

( was that the right answer? probably not but he was hoping for some kind of argument or chair throwing by some of the more high strung people that lived on this station. )

I suppose information on how we can get the fuck off this station would be useful too.

( and he's been thinking about sharing what happened to him just to prepare people but he's not sold on that yet. )

[ An amused snort at entertainment. Right answer or not, Peter can sympathise. ]

How long have you been on board?

I've lost track of time, though. A few months, probably. But too fucking long. I'm ready to be the fuck gone. You new?

[ Peter nods. ]

Just arrived. I'm Peter Guillam. And in the time I'm from, all of this— [ a gesture encompassing the station as a whole ] —is the sort of thing you only see in bad movies. I don't mind admitting that I'm a little lost.

Be prepared to feel that way for a fucking while. This shit exists where I'm from and I'm still fucking lost mostly because being here should be fucking impossible.

I'm Kovacs. The guy who's hoping this meeting turns into a brawl.
