( 002 » ENSEMBLE ) gravitational.

» WHO? EVERYONE
» WHEN? JUNE 1 onward
» WHERE? ALL OVER THE STATION (literally)
» WHAT? Gravity is always on, until it isn't.
» WARNINGS? zero g, paralysis, the vacuum of space, possible asphyxiation, possible character death

0 0 1 » LOSS OF GRAVITY

The outer rings of Reverie Station rotate around the shaft of the station, using inertial forces to simulate gravity. One moment, this works fine — people are walking along corridors, sleeping in their beds, eating in the mess hall or having a drink at the bar. The next moment? In some parts of the station, a crunching sound can be heard, like metal against metal, and shortly thereafter, the rings cease to spin, causing a jolt to go through all rings.

And then what passed for gravity just stops.

Your food, drink or blanket might have floated off after the jolt. Remember to engage your mag boots, if you're wearing them, lest you follow suit. Good luck getting around in zero g.

( )

0 0 1 . 1 » UPSIDE DOWN AND FLOATING

The lack of gravity may be disorienting at first for those not used to operating in zero g environments. Fortunately, mag boots mean you can continue walking along corridors — though the boots will engage with what used to be the ceiling of the corridors as much as what used to be the floor. No matter which part of the corridor you're attached to, if any, better make sure to collect anything that may be floating around, lest it becomes a dangerous projectile whenever gravity turns back on.

The mess hall and the gym area in particular are in a significant state of disarray. In the mess hall, some cutlery (of the grey, hard plastic variant) has been left unsecured and is floating harmlessly through the air. The same holds true for a large amount of protein powder. In the gym area, meanwhile, the entirety of the dirty water from the pool is no longer in the pool.

( ☺︎ )

0 0 1 . 2 » PARALYSIS INDOORS

One moment, you’re walking — or maybe you’re floating, mag boots disengaged. Either way, from one moment to the next, you become unable to move. Your arms, your legs, even wiggling a toe becomes a thing of impossibility. There’s a heavy weight on your chest, despite the fact that gravity is still not back on. Taking a breath is an ordeal. You can’t call for help, you can’t signal to anyone, you can only stay still.

( )

OOC: The length of paralysis is up to players.

0 0 2 » TAKE A WALK ON THE WILD SIDE

It isn't clear why the rotation of the rings has stopped and gravity ceased, but one thing is certain: life on the station is a lot more difficult without gravity, especially for those not used to living and working in a zero g environment. The sensible thing would be to fix whatever is wrong, but in order to do that, you have to figure out what's wrong first.

One way to get an idea might be to put on a suit (if required) and go out an airlock to have a close look at the upper ring, where the crunching noise could be heard the loudest. The objective is to identify the problem and, if possible, fix it — but unless you have the power of flight and can breathe in the vacuum of space, the walk from the airlock to surveying the ring will be taxing in and of itself.

Better not lose hold of the station or each other and whatever you do, do not disengage those mag boots. Hopefully, no debris will come flying at you. The station may be built to withstand it, but you aren't.

( )

OOC: There are some 20 vac suits with oxygen packs and small thrusters for (weak) propulsion available in the spaces currently accessible to characters; these can be found in various airlocks.

0 0 2 . 1 » FLOATING AROUND

The station may be built to withstand debris, but you aren't — which makes it all the more unfortunate that some debris does catch you. In the side, in the face or in the legs, it doesn't matter: what matters is that the impact is strong enough to disengage the mag boots, which means you are now floating in space.

Did your suit take damage? Do its thrusters still work, or not? Is your oxygen pack still connected properly? If your connection to the station network is still intact, now would be a good time to call for help and hope that someone's close enough to get to you in time before you float too far from the station to still be reached, before your oxygen runs out, before any possible injuries you may have sustained take their toll.

( )

OOC: With this prompt, the extent of possible injuries, the time before rescue and factors such as oxygen or damage to the suit are all up to players. Please keep in mind that character death is very much a possibility — but that death means relatively little. Should a character die from their injuries or lack of oxygen, they will awaken again. As per the death mechanism outlined in the FAQ, characters are brought back to life (possibly repeatedly, if rescue takes a while), but they lose something. What they lose is up to players as well (a limb, memories, senses, social skills, ...) and the duration of the loss can range from a few days to permanent loss.

0 0 2 . 2 » PARALYSIS OUTDOORS

One moment, you are walking along the hull of the station. The next, you're frozen. Your arms and legs no longer move and there's pressure on your chest. Even taking a breath becomes an ordeal. You cannot move forward. You cannot move back. You can't even signal or call for help.

What choice do you have but to wait out this paralysis and hope that it loses its hold on you before your oxygen runs out? Better not panic, lest you use up more of it.

( )

OOC: The length of paralysis is up to players.

0 0 3 » WORK IT

For those who've successfully made the walk across the hull of the station to find the problem, it will soon become obvious what has happened: debris crashed into the station and got lodged between the uppermost ring and the shaft of the station, where it is stuck, preventing the spinning of the ring.

You will need to work together to cut through the debris or dislodge it. It's heavy, and you have little leverage in the absence of gravity.

Keep in mind also that if you successfully dislodge the debris, the outer ring will start moving again. Be prepared, especially if you're still connected to the ring by your mag boots. Inertial forces can be quite strong, so you will need to brace yourself or risk being dislodged yourself.

[ he frowns right back at her. ]

What would losing the life support systems do?

[ for a moment, he wonders if she's joking. but when he realizes she's serious, he cuts a finger across his throat. ]

Well, we won't have to worry about booze anymore because we'll all die. Slowly. Life support is how we breathe this shit we call air. When that goes, so do we.

[ he nods at her name and files away. it's a mystery as to whether he'll use it but he will definitely remember it, at least.]

See who? Bobbie?

[ he flicks a look over to the airlock and the shakes his head. he couldn't see anything right now and he doubts he'd be able to even if he pressed his face to the glass, something he's not going to be doing. ]

She's fine.

[ she was the type who'd make sure she was fine just to come find him and punch him. another similarity to ortega there. ]

I wasn't the only one out there.

Oh, let me move right out of your way, dickweed.

[ safe to say that he doesn't move. crossing his arms while wearing a space suit doesn't look as intimidating as it would if he were just in his regular clothes but he still did it. ]

Go around me.

[ was this the best place to do this? probably not. does kovacs give a shit? absolutely not. ]

Your legs work. Use them.

[ he'll kick the debris for hours if it means this guy can't get by him. ]

Then we shall have to hope that such an outcomes never arises, or we find a way out first.

Beaming - both figuratively and literally - Apollo slips an arm around Mike's, linking elbows with him gently. He has no idea how robust these EVA suits are and Apollo is desperately sure he doesn't want to accidentally damage them, not when he knows just how fragile and vulnerable the people are within them.

He lifts his spare hand, counting down with his fingers: three, two, one...

The 'lift off' goes unsaid between them as Apollo gently propels Mike away from the airlock, up towards the upper ring.

The Windrunners use the surges of Adhesion and Gravitation- which is what I believed I saw you doing. Lashing the debris away from you? To change the effect of gravity on an item?

[Given that isn't what he is, she's not sure that his power works that way.]

Good.

[Says Jasnah- she would have gone back out there if there was an emergency, but she is extremely glad that this doesn't seem to be the case.

In that case she's going to sit back down, and get her boots properly off.]

No.

[ Steve's trained for a lot of things and he's seen enough that very few things really panic him any more, but this is still concerning. He takes a slow breath, anchors his thoughts and thinks back to the advice they'd been given by people who'd actually spent more time living in space.

Most of the things in the gym are tethered down in some way, but there are still some loose items that people had left about and their own things that they'd brought with them, plus the filthy pool water that's slowly floating up and out of its container. Maybe having a pool in space hadn't been a great idea.
]

Watch out for anything heavy or dangerous. I'm going to try to get to my boots.

[ Easier said than done, because there's nothing he can reach to push off of. ]

Steve watches the whole thing and unlike everyone else, he can tell that it's Apollo right away because he's not hidden in the bulk of a space suit. He can tell that something's wrong before the crash even happens. The trajectory is all wrong.

It doesn't give him any ability to stop it, though. He's too far away and the mag boots and space suit hamper him. He disengages them and uses his thrusters, but he's still not there in time to do much but get thrown back a bit by the explosion and a quiet whistle lets him know that there's at least one small puncture in his suit.

Luckily, his own reflexes are good and he manages to re-engage the boots before he gets thrown too far and he makes quick work of getting back over to Apollo to check him. The first thing he does is get a firm grip on Apollo's arm so that he can't float away.

He's going to have to get back inside soon, but not without Apollo.

On my way.

[ Steve doesn't have to look at who it is. It doesn't matter, because someone needs help and Steve's already out here, himself. He's seen the debris and narrowly missed getting knocked off the station himself, so he's well aware of the dangers they're facing out here.

He's not far away and makes a beeline for Amos as soon as he spots him, reaching out with his space suit-covered fingers to get a grip on Amos' suit by the wrist and pull him closer so he can get his boots re-engaged. As he's doing it, another piece of debris flies by, missing Steve's head by only a few inches.

[They're an extension of their wills, as far as Ryuji has ever known- but he's never understood the power that Ren has to keep them within his arsenal. Each of them required some sort of negotiation, deceit, or play of power to get them to join up into the team, so it's probably a good assumption that they all had personalities of their own. It's too complicated to think about, so he just accepts that it makes them stronger and impresses upon Ryuji how important it is to take every blow he can for Ren.

He mouths a wordless thank you to Seimen Kongou as it fades into the sea of consciousness, and then prepares to quickly try and scramble to catch the oxygen tank. It's not done with any level of finesse, since he still has to worry about Naoya on his back and ends up... unfortunately hitting him square in the stomach.

Ugh.

That one's gonna hurt.

Ryuji leans back against a wall, keeping the other in place long enough to grab hold of the tank, and then carefully slides the both of them down the wall into a sitting position. It would be pretty... compromising, to say the least, but Ryuji has more important things to worry about than his own perceived masculinity in the whole ordeal, and he contorts to both- help him activate his anti-gravity boots and then slip the mask over his face.

It's awkward, and clumsy, like everything Ryuji does, but sure enough, he twists the tank and it forces oxygen to start flowing.]

[Holy shit.

He has to make a really quick judgment call at this point, whether or not he wants to trust Minato and bring him into things really quick, or be cagey as fuck about it and pull back. His gut instinct, which he always, ALWAYS relies on, tells him that it's somehow alright. That this won't come back to bite himself on the ass.

Ryuji summons his mask to his face and lets it stay there, showing the mechanism for how he evokes his own persona. He's never felt ridiculous wearing it- and certainly doesn't right now, but he figures Minato has one too. That's how this works, right?]

[How can you have never heard of the Kirijo Group Ryuji, they're like, one of the biggest corporations and have their feelers reaching into basically everything regarding everyday life! Then again, Minato isn't sure how much he paid attention to that sort of thing before coming back to Iwatodai and meeting Mitsuru Kirijo, so whatever, he guesses. That's not important. The important part is that he's apparently not involved with them at all (allegedly), despite the fact that the only other people he knew of that had Personas besides his group, who awakened naturally, were the kids who were experimented on by the Kirijo Group, which only three people survived out of. He's pretty sure if there had been more, they would've been involved in Strega, too. Though, it wasn't like the Dark Hour was a localized event, there could've been more kids awakening elsewhere in Japan, but he would've assumed they wouldn't have been able to summon without an Evoker...

His brow scrunches just a tad and he tilts his head, studying the mask on his face — his way to summon his Persona, if earlier was any indication. Was that a way that this guy had developed that bypassed the use for an Evoker? Possibly. Huh. Could he do that too, and he'd been shooting himself in the head all this time for no reason? Okay, that didn't matter right now, he'd figure that stuff out later. More importantly: he was a thief? Minato had no idea what that meant. This was all very baffling, and his nose was still bleeding and most likely broken, which kind of hurt a lot and was very distracting.]

It's a plain-looking stairwell in a run-down building. The cement walls were once painted white, but the paint is cracked and peeling now, with graffiti covering large patches of it at each floor. Haruto walks up the steps floor after floor-- the elevator has been broken for weeks, and who knows when the landlords will get around to fixing it. But Haruto doesn't mind taking the stairs. The exercise is good for him.

The sound of multiple sets of running footsteps comes from above, as three young children come hurrying down the stairs, playing keepaway with some toy or other. Not looking where they're going, the leader crashes into Haruto, causing him to drop the bag of groceries he was carrying. A bottle comes rolling out, dropping down a few steps. The offending child rushes to pick it up before it can roll too far, handing it back to Haruto with an apologetic smile.

"Sorry, Mr. Roboto!"

"Yeah, sorry, Mr. Roboto," the other kids echo.

Haruto just smiles and takes the bottle back, patting the boy on the head before he gathers up his fallen grocery bag and continues up the stairs.
