Team Door, ASSEMBLE
» WHO? Team Door… that’s EVERYONE because you’re all automatically drafted now, congratulations
» WHEN? Forward dated to 15th June
» WHERE? The door with the porthole on Deck 2
» WHAT? Eight hours’ worth of beating up a door
» WARNINGS? None
Team Door have identified a likely-looking door to attack! This door, located on Deck 2, has a porthole through which some blinking lights can be seen. It’s the most likely-looking door to go for, so this is how things will unfold:

Team Door have identified a likely-looking door to attack! This door, located on Deck 2, has a porthole through which some blinking lights can be seen. It’s the most likely-looking door to go for, so this is how things will unfold:
- Feel free to handwave that Apollo, Kaldur or Amos (or anyone else involved) has been in touch with your character to let them know that door shenanigans are about to go down
- With Amos’s space engineering expertise they manage to depressurise an area around the door, effectively creating a small airlock within a section of the corridor
- The general plan is to overwhelm the door, so that whoever is tackling it first uses whatever force they can to try to open it until they have to tap out from exhaustion, and then they get swapped out for the next person and so on and so forth
- It will then take characters some 8 hours of flinging themselves/their powers at the door. The exhaustion and weakness that comes with attempting to damage the station will increasingly hamper their progress
- There will be no visible progress in the first three hours but eventually cracks will start to appear and on the eighth hour the door will give
- Once the door gives way, the mods will let us know what magical things will be found on the other side... (edit: looks like this will be announced OOCly by the mods before the 15th)
Things of note:
- Edit: explanation of the three sections that make up the corridor-airlock-door sequence of areas (with a handy image too):
- First section is the normal corridors, where people are resting up when they're getting the woozy feelings/getting their orange slices/getting into the suits. This is a normal station environment
- Then there is a second section - the ante room/airlock area where the pressure keeps on cycling to let people in and out so when you get in from the station corridor the pressure is the same
- And then the depressurized area with the door
- Characters can find 15 suits in or near assorted air locks in those areas of the station as is accessible to them at this time
- Characters can go in to the depressurised airlock in teams or in pairs, whatever works best for them
- The longer they keep attacking the door, the more quickly they grow exhausted and unable to access their powers/strength
- Exhaustion + space suits = not a great time for anyone involved
- Use this post to play out as much/as little as you need

[ One thing this door is good for, aside from its sole intended purpose, is giving everyone a good idea of what the rest of them can do. The gravity ring kerfuffle might as well have been the teaser for the main event so many of them have gathered for on deck two. There's an aquapath, several bruisers, and she even sees the healing cheerleader there. To cheerlead, presumably. Though maybe by now she's worked out if she can heal other people.
It's definitely the least bored she's been with idle hands since she got here, and it's satisfying, in a self-serving way, to watch other non-humans of comparable ability fail to pull the metaphorical sword from the stone as badly as she expect she will, too. That and it's pushing her away from the suspicion that they've all been gathered here by humans. Smart enough to build this station and dampen each individual ability to a specified degree? That's possible. But not the cooperation it would take to pull it off. It might have started with humans, but something clearly went wrong, and behind that door, which is giving little by little (she can feel it in the seams), there may lie a notion as to what.
For the first few hours, she conserves her strength -- but takes up a VAC suit, watching others work and ostensibly waiting her turn. She can tell you exactly how well you did in putting the fear of God into that door, if you like, and keep the others updated on the otherwise indefinably small progress. Or she can just eye up your strong, cool hands appreciatively, now that she knows what you can do. Or if your attempt sends any screws or small pieces dangerously flying, she can catch them in her hand no matter their trajectory, provided they're metal. Have at! ]
002.//: THERE'S NO "I" IN DOOR [ CLOSED TO SCARLET WITCH ]
[ Before everyone's had a chance to go but after the majority, Lorna steps up. She starts with pricked fingers????, narrowing her focus to points of particular stress inside the door. Then she batters at them with broad pushes of force with whole sweeps of her arms. It requires as much concentration as strength, and Lorna doesn't push herself too hard by her standards. Anyone else might think she goes at it a bit longer than she needs to. Switching off manages not to feel like giving up thanks to her teammate. Lorna's green light evanesces as she uses her boosters for the first time that day, drifting back toward Scarlet Witch to tag her in. ]
Can you get a sense of the inside? [ Lorna asks, turning to face their common enemy. Like it makes her question any less intrusive. Honestly, if not for the limited oxygen, she would be launching an inquiry at every person and power to hit that hulky metal bastard. Lucky for everyone that dire times call for rationing. ]
003.//: I'VE LANDED IN MARSHMALLOWS. HOW MAD CAN I BE [ CLOSED TO DREAMER, SCARLET WITCH ]
[ People start to take their second gos and that's when Lorna relents to taking an actual break. She returns to artificial gravity, hefting off the helmet, tanks and boosters of her VAC suit. The rest she keeps on, since the task at hand doesn't have them at a shortage. Feel free to bump into Lorna in the corridor at this time. Left to herself, she attempts to unwind with a quick refresh of the network's activity, but one post has her seething and seeing green. At first, she steals off in search of an unoccupied corner just to call out this stranger in privacy. No sooner has she done that than she escalates the confrontation and demands they come face to face.
The airlock is abandoned compared to the high traffic it hosted in the recent gravity fiasco. That's why she chose it; the intimidation points are redacted by her waiting for Dreamer's impersonator inside. She couldn't open the airlock if she wanted to, and if she did, she would only wind up flushing herself out along with the whole station.
She may be gone sometime but when she returns, it's with a redhead no one will recognize, a recent addition to the station. And a recent loss in Lorna's life. So Polaris's energy may be kind of weird but she has a handle on it, speaking with the confidence of a
mediocre white mleader, ] This is Dreamer.[ ooc threading order: L, W, S for kick-off! ]
004.//: WOULD YOU PREFER YELLOW SPANDEX [ OPEN TO ALL ]
[ When the door opens, Polaris, Scarlet Witch, and Dreamer are the team to discover 5 VAC suits behind a panel. Come and have a look-see or let them know what your character or team found! ]
[ ooc Replies will be slow! And may contain errors. My computer is down and I'm on an old iPad whose keyboard is missing a couple buttons. And it's slower and crashier than sin and total garbage and driving me fully insane. Also open to handwaving interactions for this reason, and available to plot on Lorna's Reverie post or via PM! ]
002
Not from here. And maybe not in a way that would be useful. [ red wisps begin to encircle her own fingertips as she positions her hands, flexing them like a muscle. ] But I might be able to do some damage.
003
when she gets there, she's greeted not only by lorna but a tall, redheaded woman who wanda regards with mild surprise. not necessarily at the woman's presence, although she hadn't been expecting it; new people are arriving every day. but the energy radiating from her is startling in it's vividity and odd familiarity, and so mixed wanda can't put a name to it.
she regards lorna with a mildly concerned expression, though she says nothing. if she wanted to explain, she would have, or will eventually. to dreamer, she nods with regard. ]
Scarlet Witch. [ the name feels odd coming off her tongue; she doesn't often use it with people she works with. ]
no subject
Hi. [ She offers her hand for Scarlet Witch to shake. ] Are we all from Earth?
[ Look. u can't just ask someone outright if they're a mutant, but there's a jarringly similar vibe between the Scarlet Witch and Sonya's BFF that doesn't go unnoticed. Plus, she doesn't imagine Lorna would've allied herself with a human in this place or any other. Sigh. ]
Anyway, I'm new and I'm here to make myself useful.
[ Which is her way of reassuring the smaller, dark-haired woman that she's not about to derail whatever's going on with questions about how she wound up in space. ]
no subject
[ They're using codenames because they are now a team. Lorna will have to parse how great that is later. Right now, she's still trying not to trip up on how furiously ecstatic she is to have Sonya back. They're mutants, so they don't have the luxury of lamenting the circumstances. 'Cause they always suck, in case that's not clear. ]
All from Earth, not all mutants, and not all from the same time, either. [ Lorna rolls her eyes towards one of the crew members currently off door duty and minding their own business, let's say Amos who cares he can't sit with us. Her hip cocks, chin juts up imperceptibly, body language blaring her vague mistrust. ] I don't even know who we'd start with. [ For interrogations, which go notoriously well with Polaris around.
She said she wanted to be helpful, is that not..... ]
no subject
I wouldn't start now, in any case. [ whether or not they can be trusted, they have been doing a lot to make sure everyone else stays alive, and when it comes to the bad things that have been happening on the station they're just as clueless about the things science doesn't have an answer for as everyone else. but they don't need to have that discussion now. ] Were we planning to try the door again?
eesh sorry for the wait!
Anyway, it's fine, she doesn't do that anymore on account of having traumatized a potential neutral into a total zealot crazy person in the war of mutants vs humans?? She wasn't thinking interrogation, it's fine!! Everything's fine.
Although unfortunately, as her attention drifts to the airlock and the door beyond it, she's forced to admit - this is the kind of thing her powers won't help much with. ]
We... Don't happen to know if it's made of adamantium?
[ Look, she was literally just in a facility with walls of the stuff, a lady's gotta ask. ]
^^^ +1, x2 or 3
It's an alloy or something. Of crap I didn't even know you could mix together. And my powers are on the fritz. [ a nod to Wanda ] Hers too. There, but declawed.
Yours? [ She's free to test it on Lorna. She doesn't enjoy having other people in her head but Sonya's, oh, about a hundred million times more respectful than Esme & the Esmes in that regard. ]
01.
This shouldn't surprise him half as much as it does, half the people here have never seen the interior of a space-station in their lives. Even so, there has to be a simpler way to deal with this problem. One less likely to end in them all on the verge of collapse.
He waits for a lull in activity before approaching, gloved fingers tracing one of the seams, his focusing inward. ]

Looking for a weak spot?
no subject
[ A long shot. Still, a door is a door and all doors have some kind of lock. Finding it and coaxing it into compliance is another whole different set of problems, of course, but hope springs eternal. ]
Sometimes they don't bite back as hard when you're careful with them.
[ The doors, he means. The station hadn't lashed out when he'd pried one of the panels off the door, before. Had only really started getting tetchy when he'd started throwing his weight around. ]
no subject
Kinky. [ Aside from the pestering banter, she chooses not to intervene yet, remaining at bay with her arms loosely looped. ]
no subject
[ Splitting his focus now is tougher, the station not entirely co-operating with his efforts, but not impossible; pushing through the discomfort is one of the first lessons he learned under Snoke.
He finds his mark.
Fingers flexing against the metal of the door; coaxing, careful. The lock isn't resisting him as such — at least not yet — but it's not making it easy for him, either. ]
4 - if everyones down with meeting these doges. im good with whatever
he comes across the group who found the vac suits and makes his way over, recognizing wanda and nodding to the other ladies politely. ] More suits? [ he confirms. that can't hurt, can it? ]

[ max wanders over to lorna since he's being ignored!!! rude. and he snuffles at her legs cheerily. YOU SMELL NICE I'M A DOG YOU HAVE COOL HAIR ]
no subject
Everything here goes through them at some point. [ Lorna glances over to him after speaking. Huh. She knows dogs sometimes resemble their owners but these two take it to a 101 Dalmatians level. ]
no subject
Yeah, guess that's true. We probably wouldn't have made it out the other end of that gravity bullshit without 'em either.
no subject
We would have, just with a body count. [ Enough folks were raring to help. She got to know quite a few faces while she was out there but his doesn't ring any bells. Could be that he's human and the typical kind, without an aeronautics degree and the 18th digit of pi memorized. Has to be the shittiest lot to pull of all. And that's as far as she gets into pity. He's not pitying the benchpress that must be on deck. Either he's coping well enough to keep vengefully fit or doing that is how he copes, results are what matter and he's clearly functional. ]
no subject
Convenient that the station won't let us stay down then. [ it's soft, clearly something that disturbs him. if there was one thing he could count on before it was death being permanent. that's kind of his whole thing really. ]
no subject
Kinda sad, dude. ]
no subject
Just because I'm sick of this place fucking with us doesn't mean I'm gonna kill myself. [ that can wait til after ]

Looking on the bright side, I like it. [ he holds up an OK sign with his fingers and shrugs a shoulder. if they're dealing in what-ifs then he really doesn't have anything to add. ]
